Updated Cellfactor Tech Demo

An updated version of the Cellfactor Tech Demo is now available on the AGEIA Website. The updated editions of Artificial Studios' shooter offers performance improvements, cloth rendering in software, and other changes from the original, and once again ostensibly requires a PhysX accelerator. The download is mirrored on 3D Gamers, FileFront, and Worthplaying.

Wasn't this the same demo out before that Game Sites testers found worked just as well without the added card, you just had to install the drivers and add -false too having the card?
Yes I think so.

So they proabably just took out the possibility to run wihtout their card since, I guess it's not good policy to prove your card isn't necessary, correct?

Soon, ATI and Nvidia will integrate similar technology on their boards and this will end this interlude of extra add-in cards.

Since gamers are all being forced to get dual core CPUs, who's going to need PhysX? Maybe a PhysX card has a minor advantage at some tasks, but for $300? No way. I can do without wavey cloth and physically accurate water particle simulations.

no.. cloth, fluids and rigid bodies are all hardware accelerated.. they just left the cloth on in a software testing/debug mode (if you disable the card).. the frame rate takes a huge hit obviously in software.

this demo is actually a lot smoother than the last version.

Cloth can run (very fast) on PhysX hardware. But in this update cloth is also enabled when running software-debug mode for performance comparison.

In software?! Why? This is a $300 Physics card, it can not do cloth in hardware?!!

I sure hope PC games don't jump on this PhysX card bandwagon.
Bad enough paying $500 for a vid card.
Now I have to get a Physics card too? Blah

Thank you

I'd try it, but I don't have a PhysX card.
