Battlefield 2 Update

A new Battlefield 2 community update (thanks Frans) promises help for mod authors, as well professing their acknowledgment of unspecified issues with the latest update to the game, saying they are searching for answers:
The teams here at DICE and at EA want to take a moment to acknowledge that we are aware of the issues that some are experiencing with the latest release.

We are continuing our work to review and find potential solutions to the problems affecting many players and server admins. We are also reviewing recent changes to servers and gameplay.

While we continue our work internally we want to remind everyone to keep using the EA forums to provide feedback. We review the comments in these and other forums regularly while we consider the direction of Battlefield.

We also want to assure to the mod community that we understand the difficulties you have worked through and we are continuing to look for ways to help everyone and find ways to promote all of the mods and their hard working teams.

if I was infantry in real life when running over a hill and spotting an enemy ahead and I dove forward to a prone position, this would be an exploit and isnt possible?

Shit, you'd be expected to do this.

Jumping about isnt possible either? Sure it makes you look a twat but its not exactly something you cant do in real life.

Eh, sure it's possible, but in real life jumping about will get you shot. Trust me, dolphin diving isn't a tactic taught in any military in the world, unless you're fighting in a trampoline factory. It's a silly exploit that thankfully they closed.

I remember in the beta demo (whatever it was) for Tribes:V people, like myself, telling folks that "if they didnt fix X.. his game would implode"..
X= many issues and concerns.
they laughed at me and the others when we said it.. they told us we were dumb and the game would sell and do well..
sigh.

why can't they just update the graphics for Tribes 1 and re-release it... with fanfare.
i really loved that game.

i still need a new fps. ugh

That's not teamwork that's exploiting. Just like bunny hopping and dolphin diving

I dont play BF2 anymore. Bought it but found it shite compared to BF1942 and too buggy/laggy.

But that comment above made me laugh. Basically then, if I was infantry in real life when running over a hill and spotting an enemy ahead and I dove forward to a prone position, this would be an exploit and isnt possible? Jumping about isnt possible either? Sure it makes you look a twat but its not exactly something you cant do in real life.

Please, do not even mention the Tribes 2 patching system Other than the crappy patching system and narfing as nearly 99% of game patches do, it was a GREAT multiplayer experience.

Do not even whisper the T:V name.

Tribes: V was tuned out because it sucks ass. Had nothing at all to do with the patching of Tribes 2. Plenty of us ex-Tribes players would have gladely played the new one if they didn't dumb it down for the masses.

I wonder how bad this will hurt the franchise. Remember Tribes? The first one was herolded as a ground-breaking advance in the genre that finally made teamplay all that it should be. But Tribes 2 was an endless series of patches, each of which broke the game worse than the last. By Tribes: Vengence people had tuned it out, and it was practically published strait to the bargain bin.

EA/Dice severely botched 1.3, 1.2, and virtually every other patch that has been released has introduced bugs. I am a "professional" QA guy for a game company and I find it hard to believe that EA/Dice went through the trouble of having an actual team test these patch releases.

If I were EA at this point I'd release Armored Fury for free. They'd be foolish not to. It's just about the only way to put out the fires at this point...

I am not really certain how the rotating squad leader is an exploit or serious issue, at least in pub play.

I have a small group of friends and we like to server hop. We used the rotating squad leader feature to allow us to stick together and fight together rather than being spread hither and yon across the map. By spawning on whoever's alive we were able to help them out and get back into the fight quickly. Of course, that often didn't work as if they were pinned down then we were all pinned down, oops

Besides which even if that is the case the other team should encourage it since they basically won't get one easy kill but four or five.

Seems like there's a lot of angry teenagers commenting on BF2. First, there's couple of people complaining about not being able to exploit an in game mechanic anymore, that mechanic being spawning on your squad leader. You can't do this anymore if you have just joined the squade, you have to die once. This prevents squad cycling, which is leaving and rejoining a squad as squad leader to respawn on someone else in that squad. That's not teamwork that's exploiting. Just like bunny hopping and dolphin diving.

There's also someone complaining about having reinstall the patch after installing the SF expansion. Duh. You think the patch is gonna magically appear on the SF expansion? No, when you install SF, you need to reinstall the current update.

EA did screw up with this latest patch, but not amount of patches will fix the Alpha Hotels that plauge this game with their incessent whining. BTW, if you are having problems with the 1.3 patch, try installing the FULL patch over the incremental one. It's worked for me and it will work for you!

i figure that when 2142 comes out, i will download it.. give it a thorough testing on all maps and will all video settings.. if then it doesnt have any issues, i MIGHT buy the game. However, and i know i am preaching to the choir, i am just waiting for Quake Wars.

0n my new, and damn high end system.. the game still stutters, takes forever to load and still has some of the worst mechanics i have ever seen in an FPS.

edit
what the fark.. u can't spawn on squad leaders anymore??

If they'd just bring back one thing. THE ABILITY TO SPAWN ON SQUAD LEADERS!!!!!! Why the fuck would they take that out?? This is a TEAM game right? Then why the hell would they take out a chance to spawn with your SL to help him out? Fucking MORONS!!!!

I bought Special Fecies mod, boy am I red faced. I promptly uninstalled it but feel burnt and to rub it in further EVERY BLOODY FREAKING TIME I log onto BF2 I get the popup asking me to either INSTALL 1.3 patch (which is already installed), shell out more money for the Euro Farce or the Armed Hurry mods.

How can I stop this damn INSULTING popup on the ingame browser? Does anybody have hacks? It just adds salt to the wound.

The Battlefield franchise is DEAD. They killed it. Let it die. Do not prolong the nightmare, please do not encourage more mods. Give some other company your money or just give it to charity.

STOP THE FUCKING IN GAME POPUP MESSAGES, GIVE ME A "DO NOT SPAM INSULT ME AGAIN" CHECKBOX. FUCK ME, BECAUSE WE ALL LOVE MODAL POPUP MESSAGE BOXES.

Please please somebody please please DDoS EA/DICE's game authentication servers. Put us all out of our pain please!.

I am done with this franchise - FUCK OFF

Seconded.

This game is just embarrassing now, I mean there are supposed to be LESS bugs this long after release than more (or roughly the same number).

Anyway, seems this franchise is going the way of the dodo anyway, at least in my book. Their SciFi game looks crummy and with Quake Wars coming out soon...

I don't care the developers don't give enough about their game to prevent them from selling out as long as it doesn't hurt the product I pay for. But then it did.

No more money from me.

Nananana... nananana... hey hey hey... GOOD-BYE!

Personally, I have learned my lesson with EA/Dice with BF2. I hate feeling like a dumbass for buying something and then being frustrated by using it. So to avoid feeling like a dumbass, I won't be buying anymore EA/Dice games. And I'm not even going to look at BF2142.

Goodbye EA, and good riddance.

Not to troll, but come on Street, I've heard this a million times, and I've never seen anyone actually go through with it. The same people who bitch now will be bitching about another EA game down the road
