Their dogs would have to get past my .45 ACP Glock 21 slugs first, which I seriously doubt would happen. And I'm accurate enough not to worry about a shotgun. And rednecks do not "all carry shotguns." Carrying a shotgun is illegal. You can have a shotgun in your house, but not in a mall or anywhere else in public.
Good for you - I'm glad you're handy with a pistol. However, I'd be willing to bet the majority of gays do not carry pistols. Just because someone has been the victim of bigotry doesn't mean they're going to pack heat - many people are opposed to using firearms and other weapons, just on principle.
Regarding the whole shotgun thing, what I meant was that rednecks keep shotguns at their homes. Of course they don't walk around with them. I was talking about running into rednecks on their turf. Besides, if people were harassing you in a public place (like a mall) and you drew a pistol on them, you'd be "in trouble" at the very least. Of course, the whole scene would have already drawn attention, but my point is that letting people see your gun is a good way to draw attention to yourself. I was under the impression that the majority of gays and lebsians wanted to be left alone and treated like human beings, not feared as people "you don't mess with."
