Yes, Gordon isn't making major tactical decisions like Washington. But the people don't know this. Look at the way the rebels act when Gordon is around. They all look up to him as the symbol of the war. Much the way the revolutionaries looked up to Washington.
I can appreciate that Gordon is an inspirational or galvanizing figure for these people and a leader wholly for that fact that people will follow him, and I can see that working as the scientist throw into a bad situation arising a hero, but it doesn’t concur with the mute whipping boy we now have.
As for Achilles being a hired mercenary, that's very accurate as to what Gordon is thanks to the G-Man. Gordon kills what he is told to kill without question. How is that not a hired mercenary?
Hired suggest a contract or agreement, a yes or no situation, something Gordon is never offered, or something he never seeks, Gordon is not hired.
I cannot argue about this anymore, and I am not ceding any of my amazing points, but I think we have to agree to disagree, as they say.
