I think we learned a bit more than you're saying. (spoilers, highlight)
We know some people in the resistence don't necessarily agree with it.
We know the Citadel has been shut down and the Combine don't care.
We know there were huge slugs on huge pods sent out at the end.
We know the Vortigons don't like the Gman for some reason and stopped him.
We know Breen is expecting to take a host body.
We know Mossman is in trouble. Is there really anything more to know about Kleiner or Gordon? Not really. What questions would you want answered? There's nothing more to them.
And I, for one, would hate if Gordon talked. Or if anyone acted like he did. I got tired of mouthy action heros. Gordons silence is refreshing as hell. And makes a lot more sense. I hate playing other games and muttering "shut the hell up" or "gee, you think?" when the protagonist opens his damn mouth.
I was satisfied with the ending of this episode. The episode was about the escape from City 17. And it ended with the escape from City 17. I think the cutoff point was perfectly fine and fit wonderfully. I thought the same about HL2, though. That game was about starting the rebellion and destroying the Citadel, weakening the Combine so the resistence can do its job. And that's what happened and where it ended. I interpretted the ending differently than what happened, though. I saw it as the Gman stepping in and saving Gordon, putting him back in stasis or what-have-you. He'd done his job and was no longer needed. Maybe that's what happened before the Vortigons interrupted.
I still think the combat needs to be refined. It feels like shooting guys standing there. And I really don't feel much of a connection between my bullets and the target, unlike in many other recent games. I find that most disappointing and really hope they improve it.
I still think the Source engine looks fantastic. While it's blocky, I find it to be the most realistic engine out there right now. It's in the textures and the lighting. Maybe it isn't dynamic, but it's realistic.
I missed vehicles. I thought the fanboat was among the best parts of HL2. The scenary helped make it. I know I'm alone in this.
I'll definitely be buying the next episode. But probably not from Steam. Yeah, $17.99 presale is close to $14.99, but I'm much happier with a $15 price tag. Best Buy here I come.
