But even if there are big plot twists to come if we have to suffer through dreadfully dull games with no plot to get to it then it's not really worth it. The problem I have is that there is no evidence to suggest a much deeper plot... I mean HL2 was plenty deep enough, in a very amigious way, but for that to work it really needed to propel it forward with this episode. Nothing more is known about Gordon. Nothing more is known about the Gman. Nothing more is known about Kleiner. Nothing more is known about Mossman, Breen, the Combine, the Citadels, etc. We know precious little more about Alyx (despite spending the entire time with her), City 17 or the resistance. We have no explanation for the conclusion at the beginning (we have to wait for more episodes to even get a hint at what's going on). I dunno... I just prefer games to be very plot driven. If it had have had a much better storyline I wouldn't have minded that it was so short.
