Out of the Blue

Dog bowl designed to keep dogs from eating too fast (thanks Ant). A good idea, but I'm not convinced… Gunnar eats two meals a day that are each over a pound of meat in probably about two minutes all told, and it looks like the only way that bowl would slow him down is the time it would take to eat the plastic nubs.

Question for DS owners: Are the games region locked at all? I didn't think they are, but I'm trying to track down a copy of Phoenix Wright (good luck, I know)...

Thanks!

This doesn't help, but when I was in Switzerland I stopped by at a MediaMarkt (pretty much a European BestBuy type store).

Anyway, they had many copies of Pheonix Wright in the stand there.

It seems to be pretty hard to find in the US...I found one on Ebay for $50...but I haven't even ordered a DS Lite yet...

So...Phoenix Wright...Mario 64 (or whatever it's called)...New Super Mario Brothers...

What other games are must haves?

Yeah, in Game (one of the bigger games retailers in the UK), they've actually got it in a window-display at the moment. Admittedly, not a huge one, but still... for what I see as quite a niche game, it's getting good coverage over here.

Heh, am I the only one who managed to find Phoenix Wright no problem? It was a while ago, a few weeks after it came out. I've got my beaten copy sitting here.

As for essentials, SM64DS is eh. Mario Kart DS is fantastic, New Super Mario Bros is kickass, Trauma Center is a unique game w/ touchscreen. Tetris DS has excellent (and addictive multiplayer). Metroid Prime if you want an FPS, and finally this game: http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=275&products_id=7098&

while although Japanese, can be understood decently easily, and is just plain rediculous no matter what language.

What other games are must haves?

Alright, my turn.

I recently read something about Phoenix Wright being produced again due to its sudden popularity. Run a google search for more details before you spend too much on Ebay.

Dan's Essentials for DS:

Mario & Luigi Partners in Time - awesome RPG w/ comedy and length (currently at around 13 hours and i've only collected 3 shards)

Metroid Prime Hunters - for the multiplayer alone, also you can play a game with bots

Metroid Prime Pinball - easy game to pick up and play for a few minutes and also most interesting pinball game I've ever played. Comes with the rumble pack.

Tetris DS - another game that's easy to pick up and play if you only have a few minutes and it also has online multiplayer

Mario Kart - pretty fun game whether you like racing or not.. that is until you've cleared the circuits which will take some time. also has online multiplayer

New SMB - A mixture of the original super mario bros, mario 3, and world with a couple tiny elements from the 64 series. Can't go wrong. Only issue is that you can only save after 3 or 4 levels.

Some other games that are good but not necessarily essentials are Trauma Centre (surgery with your stylus, oh snap!) and Kirby Canvas Curse (stylus only, unique gameplay).

I've also heard really good thing about the Castlevania DS game but haven't had much time with it to recommend it. From what I've seen so far it has a lot of depth to it and maybe more seriousness than other games.

Thats it for me for now.

I remember that too, and looked around on Google last night but couldn't find it...

And is Trauma Center out in the US? I was looking for that one too...

Metroid is a given, and the pinball sounds fun. I actually enjoyed Sonic Spinball, so I figured I'd like that one...

Mario Cart? I'm just Mario Carted out...there's only so different versions of that one I can see buying. Same deal w/ Tetris. Hell Tetris should be a freebie, as many copies of that have been bought.

Mario and Luigi RPG sounds awesome...

New SMB seems like a given, as much as people are going ape shit over it...

And I wanna find Phoenix Wright...it just sounds so off the wall, I gotta try it.

Thanks for the input, guys!

Do GBA titles count?

Cause if they do, try to find yourself a copy of Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars -- it's friggin' great.

if you think mario and luigi for the DS sounds awesome you should also nab it for the GBA. it's on player's choice pricing right now and it has really good graphics for the GBA as well.

for the mario kart, the DS version seems to go back to its roots in gameplay style rather than the GCN title.

oh if you want to try some of these games out you might want to try the download station in an EB games.. they have free downloadable demos you can try out until you turn off your DS

Thanks to those that made suggestions about the motherboard. I decided to replace it with a different one as this is the second ASUS board to die on me in as many years.

It came in today (I overnighted it). I needed my PC to do stuff for work and really didn't feel like wasting part of Memorial Day Weekend to work on rebuilding/reformatting my PC.

Thanks all

Mario Kart and Tetris DS are multiplayer games fo'sho. Tetris DS also has a LOT of puzzles and goofy little game modes that make it worth the cost of admission.

Update from a few weeks ago...Summary: Lucas shits on fans again. Fans shell out money anyway...

http://www.videobusiness.com/article/CA6337246.html

Hey, I got an idea! Let's recut ALL the SW movies, and cast Lucas as The Emperor! Then we as fans can TOTALLY get into understanding how truly vile and evil he is!
