People who do not have animals as pets have certain preconceived notions about animals. Once you get a pet you realize what you previously thought was not correct.Its true.
If your going to get a pet make sure you can give it the time and space it deserves, and make sure you get a pet that fits your lifestyle. For instance a larger dog if you like to go for long walks/runs, or small sleepy cats if you live in a van opposite someones house...
People are so often blinded by how cute the animal is that they end up getting one that just turns their life into a pain, and after a while they end up getting rid of it (This annoys me, I used to volunteer at an animal shelter, and it was one of the most common things to see "Yeah we got this dog at christmas and it keeps taking a crap on the carpet, and now we dont want it..." gah).
