Into the Black

Got to watch a couple of guys slicing up the street in front of our house with giant water-cooled circular saws today. It was a fascinating spectacle, as one of them in particular kept slicing within inches of the blade-cooling hose running back to the fire hydrant. He never quite managed to hit it in spite of close calls, and I must admit, me rooting for it, just to see what happened.

I worked doing line construction years ago when CATV first started coming around and we used the things daily. The thing is, even if it doesn't have any water it'll work fine (the asphalt fiber blades anyhow), they just wear at a much faster rate.
