Neverwinter Nights Patch

The Neverwinter Nights Website (thanks Maximus) offers a new patch for Neverwinter Nights, updating the D&D RPG to version 1.67. Word is: "Welcome to the Neverwinter Nights 1.67 Update! This update is the largest BioWare has ever released for NWN, with a metric ton of new features." The update includes new sea creatures, new tilesets, and new scripts, for which more information is promised soon. There is also an accompanying updated version of the game's Stand-Alone Server.

My mistake, then. I just got the Bioware newsletter, and they made it sound like they developed all this stuff for that module and then gave the basic ingredients away as a sort of promotion for it.

In other words, though: They did not develop new content just to give it away. They developed new content for a for-pay module and then shared some of it. That's not a bad thing, I'm just saying it's not purely them making all-new free content to support people who already bought the game.

Milking it

It's free! How are they milking it?

It's an old Blue's News insider joke...and you fell for it.

Think it started w/ a patch for Far Cry that someone said was milking it, and now anytime something gets released for free, someone else throws that in...

One should note that this free content is the basis for their next for-pay expansion module, which is pirate themed, so... it's nice that they give the basic stuff away for free, but it's not all altruistic.

Do you have any proof to back that up? I ask because from everything I've read, all the 'pirate' stuff is from the Pirates of the Sword Coast premium module. So in other words, they are GIVING you the texture packs ect (everything short of the module itself) from the Premium Module for free. I fail to see how this has anything to do with an expansion? I haven't heard any announcements about any new NWN expansions. Please enlighten us?

Edit: Are you under the assumption that Pirates of the Sword Coast is new? It's been out for months at least. I think I bought it back in October of last year if memory serves. Trust me, it's nothing new.

Yeah everyone hates the OC, and with good reason. The plot sucks, and they spread out the Level Ups to where you're always levelling up at the same pace. That is, it takes just as much time to level up from 4 to 5 as it does from 11 to 12! Which is nuts! There's nothing to do in the early levels, but Bioware forced you to stay at the low levels for what seemed like ages.

The only thing i like about the OC is the full multiplayer co-op support.

The original NWN campaign was so boring I just couldn't stand it. I tried to pick it back up several times and could never stay awake long enough to get through Chapter 2.

And the best part for me is that I only got into the game recently after trying to like it the first 10 times or so I installed it
lol i did the same thing, bought the game when it originally came out years ago, didn't finish it, picked up NWN Diamond Edition last year for $27 and played thru the entire multi-part campaign plus the adventure packs plus a couple downloaded player made ones.

An awesome rpg StoryWorld, masterfully designed and implemented.

Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition includes:
Main campaign
- Neverwinter Nights
- Shadows of Undrentide
- Hordes of the Underdark
Stand alone adventures
- Kingmaker
- ShadowGuard
- Witch's Wake Remastered

I consider milking a product as one where you keep charging for basic content additions that should be mods in an attempt to make the product seem new.... aka an EA Games Expansion.

Creating an update to a product and not charging for it is just a way to make fans happy as well as get people to either buy the game if they haven't already or bring them back into it. Besides, it does nothing but help keep intrest alive before the sequel comes out.

Do yourself a favor and check out some of the "Hall of Fame" user made modules; there are many excellent ones out there. I would recomend Lord of Terror (a Diablo remake) and the Aielund series to get started.

Cheers,

I agree with the Bethesda stuff... I'm already putting my copy of Oblivion up on ebay and stopped playing it. Can't find the excitement of the game... sure it looks great and has lots of content, but dunno... just seems like a chore to play..

Indeed. Bethesda should take note and stop with the GW Bush-styled greed.

You got to love a company that keeps the good (read: free) stuff coming years after release.
