Black & White 2: Battle of the Gods Ships

EA and Lionhead Return to Eden With Black & White 2 Battle of the Gods Expansion Pack has word that Lionhead's god game sequel expansion is shipping, and will be available over the coming few days:

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 25, 2006--The battle for Eden rages on! Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:ERTS - News) and Lionhead Studios today announced that Black & WhiteŽ 2: Battle of the Gods has begun to ship to retail outlets and will be available April 28, 2006 via the EA(TM) downloader at

The Battle of the Gods expansion pack for Black & WhiteŽ 2 offers players a host of new challenges in a darker, more sinister game world. In the expansion pack, players return to Eden where something strange has happened: The Aztecs have raised their own evil deity, which must be confronted head-on for control of the land. Players have the freedom to choose how they will rise to this new challenge -- by countering the evil deity's actions with good deeds or attempting to defeat him with extreme evil.

I bought the original B&W, like many people I thought it was great for the first few days, after that I got tired of casting food and water miracles over and over and over, but I stuck at the game and completed it. I also ran through it again as a totally evil bastard, which I have to say was a damn site more fun. However, unlike classic games of the past, I finished the game out of duty rather than willing, and I never touched it since.

B&W2 then, I had no intention of buying it, then on my birthday it was bought for me. After the initial messing about with config files (because Lionhead set my radeon 9800 settings wrong) I was left with a playable game. I was utterly disappointed with the way the creature turned out, and mildly disappointed with the shallow RTS mechanics, I also hate the tribute feature. City building is quite pleasant, and the graphics are superb. I will still complete this game, but the expansion is coming to me second hand or from a bargain bin probably 6-9 months down the line.

Besides, with GW:factions coming out and DoW:dark crusade around the corner, why would I want to miss out on those to play this mediocre game?

I hope Peter Molyneux (say molly-new :)) can get back on track now he is free from EA's evil grasp. B&W has always been a game with shedloads of promise, but never fulfilling it.
