Gold - Heroes of Might and Magic V

Ubisoft announces that Heroes of Might & Magic V is gold, though Nival Interactive's turn-based strategy sequel isn't due in North America for over a month. In the meantime, the playable demo was recently released (story) offering a sample of the game. Here's word:
SAN FRANCISCO - April 20, 2006 – Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, today announces that Heroes of Might and Magic® V has gone gold and is scheduled for release in North America on May 23, 2006.

Developed by a seasoned team at Nival Interactive (Blitzkrieg, Silent Storm, Etherlords), Heroes of Might and Magic V® will be available in both a standard and a limited edition and will ship with a rating of “T” (Teen).

good news because:
1) They dropped starforce. Probably because of the $5 million lawsuit, but hey its still good news
2) They delayed the game to make it better. There was quite a bit of concern that they might have shipped it out a couple months ago because of Ubi's fiscal year end. EVERY beta tester (and I dont mean that limited "open" beta they did) said it was NOT ready to be shipped. Massive AI problems, lots of missing content, many bugs, etc. There was even a petition to delay the game. You do NOT see a petition for a game delay every day.

So lets hope that that extra time will make the differance and make this a great game. And kudos to Ubi for getting rid of starforce.

This is definitely on the ol' buy list now. Other than a couple of interface quirks, the demo was solid and definitely in the spirit of the series. I was nervous when I heard Nival was doing it, but it looks like they stepped up. Hopefully this will do well enough to warrant further additions.

I am actually just posting here too say, that yes I am thrilled that Ubi has dropped SF, for the two people who hasn't seen this (Anyway I am cheering this)
http://ars.userfriendly.org/cartoons/?id=20060416

I would also like too mark the positive turn that they have released a playable DEMO just before declaring the game gold, I hope other publishers follow these good examples, and that us as the gaming community can disregard the slight fact that Ubi mainly dropped the B00BIES protection due too a lawsuit and cheer the result by maybe increasing their game sales.

Now it's only too bad HOMM is seriously not my cup of tea, so sadly I won't be voting with my $'s. But fans of the previous games seem's too give this demo mostly positive reviews, and the dark ages of Ubi has now finaly come too pass.

unless of course they do something stupid

The demo was a sound addition to the franchise, although I hope not all the maps are 5 hour epics were you incrimentally build up your forces to the final showdown... It needs more variety than just 20 maps like that.

Tried the demo, just to see what a HoMM game was like and because it didn't have any "strings" attached. Graphics were good, but the combat wasn't my cup of tea. That and the red opponent wins in about 10 mins if you don't know what you're doing.
