Cold Fear Tries to Scare Up Movie Deal

Variety.com (thanks Frans and GameGossip) has word that Cold Fear, Darkworks' survival/horror game, has been optioned as a motion picture project, apparently banking on a film's potential to get more out of the story than the underwhelming sales and reviews of the source material:
It's an unusual license, since "Cold Fear" didn't sell well to gamers. But producers are betting that the scary atmosphere and compelling story -- a Coast Guard Officer trying to reconnect with his daughter is adrift on a whaling ship infested with aliens -- will translate well as a horror film.

One reason movie adaptations of videogames mess up is because they always add ill-fitting elements that weren't in the games, usually in some sort of attempt to "humanize" them.

I haven't played Cold Fear, but based on what I read you fight monsters/zombies on an abandoned ship in a storm. What they're describing doesn't sound much like the game.
