Cold Fear Tries to Scare Up Movie Deal

Variety.com (thanks Frans and GameGossip) has word that Cold Fear, Darkworks' survival/horror game, has been optioned as a motion picture project, apparently banking on a film's potential to get more out of the story than the underwhelming sales and reviews of the source material:
It's an unusual license, since "Cold Fear" didn't sell well to gamers. But producers are betting that the scary atmosphere and compelling story -- a Coast Guard Officer trying to reconnect with his daughter is adrift on a whaling ship infested with aliens -- will translate well as a horror film.

I don't know where they got that plot from, but that isn't the game I remember playing. There was nothing about a daughter. You are coast guard investigating a derelict. The monsters are some kind of scientific experiment gone wrong. I liked Cold Fear. It was very atmospheric, but quite short.
