Actually, yes. Simple add-ons have been released for free in game patches for years. We've all come to expect that. If you want to sell something, create a lot of new professional content and release it all together in an expansion pack and we'll have a deal.
In the meantime, this nickel-and-diming has had an interesting effect on my buying decisions. At first, I was going to pick up a 360 soon and I wanted to get Oblivion along with it. The recent threads about the $2.50 horse armor texture reminded me of the dangers of closed systems (like cell phone service providers charging $3 for ringtones, because they can) and I decided to stay away from that console for a while.
I was then going to get the PC version of the game, until I saw this and realized they were going to try the same shit with PC gamers.
Look, this may turn out to work as a new business model, but I won't be a part of it. Until I have no choice anymore, I have no intention of buying the missing parts of my games a couple of bucks at a time. I hope I'm not the only one who feels this way.
