ATI Oblivion Beta Driver

ATI Customer Care is offering a new beta 6.3 CATALYST WinXP/2K driver for ATI RADEON X1000 series CrossFire accelerators. The special driver, referred to as the "Chuck" patch in honor of its creator, allows the concurrent use of HDR lighting and anti-aliasing. There is a listing of some known issues, including lack of SuperAA support, and the following warning: "This driver is provided as a proof-of-concept and is not supported by Bethesda, 2K games or ATI Technologies."

I was getting crashes about every 15-20 minutes. I tried alot of things, but what finally did it for me was one of the last two things I did, which was either re-installing directx or removing all Nero Audio and Video codecs. I found a program that easily removes the codecs, but I can't remember the name now, and I don't have my game machine in-front of me.

Now it crashes everytime I exit the game, but that doesn't bother me too much.

You could argue that the driver required patching.

You could argue the world is flat, too...

Too bad you can't enjoy any of the player-made mods with the 360 version, though

He doesn't know the difference between a patch and a driver either, apparently...

Crossfire only? Apr 7, 2006, 03:28

Someone asked earlier, but I haven't seen it answered. Does this only work for a Cross Fire configuration, or will it work for any Cross Fire compatible x1000 line card? I have a X1800 XT card, and I installed the driver but when I go to set it up in the pre-launch options it says you can't enable both. Am I just doing something wrong? There really aren't any directions at the ATI download page...

D'oh... went to the Oblivion Forums and found the answer right after I posted. You just enable AA in your Catalyst Control Center to whatever level you want.

Try typing tcl in the console(~)...noclipping mode. Turn it off when out of the obstacle (and not in the cieling/another obstacle)

Erm...are 5900 supported? I'm not sure on this...I do know that there's loads of problems with early geforces.

And I know my 9800pro is still chugging along great Best buy ever; 1024x768, setting mid-to high...amazing what some ini tweaking can do Although I might have to switch to 800x600...Imperial city gave me no problems, but the town I'm in now is stuttering a bit. Wilderness is fine though.

-edit-
using Omega 6.3's, which work perfectly. Only two CTD's so far, and those were after 6 hour sessions

This is why I went the 360 route.

Figured this game would have plenty of graphical issues that required patching.

Oblivion is amazing.

My sad video card apparently doesn't support HDR.

Am I the only one that turned off HDR? Once again, I just...the idea is great and it will be great in time, but it still just seems too bright and unrealistic.

Yeah, it's a bit excessive at times, especially indoors. Though, I think it really adds a lot to the outdoor environments so I left it on.

Do the DHZer0point drivers make a big difference? I will try anything to stop these crashes. I am back to Cat 6.3's now. My x800xt runs great with every game except Oblivion where, as noted earlier, it minimizes to desktop and then freezes, forcing me to Ctrl, Alt, Del to get back into the game. Very frustrating. The game is, however, awesome and awesome looking when it is not crashing.

I dont know about you guys, but this game crashes anywhere from straight away to an hour later. However I have an Nvidia card. All other games stable as can be.
Try the tweak guide
http://www.tweakguides.com/Oblivion_1.html

starting on page 2 he goes into optimization, troubleshooting and general Nvidia and ATI card settings as well.

I've been playing on a 9800 Pro with Cat 5.8's. The only time the game has ever crashed was on exit. Then I found out that if you exit to the menu first, then exit the game from there, it doesn't crash. Since I started doing that, no crashes.

I'm about 16 hours into it and haven't come across any gameplay bugs except getting stuck in things. One time I went to open a door but it was locked. I backed out of the minigame and found myself inside the walls to the building, looking out into the world. I fast-travelled out of that one. The other time I got stuck was when I decided to exercise my acrobatic skills and jump over to a coffin to see what might be behind it. It soon became clear that I wasn't meant to be there, as I got stuck and had to reload. But thanks to the lightning fast quicksaves, I quicksave a LOT so it was fine.

What a great game. You're right about the health warning. There should definitely be one. I just wish I had more time to play it...

Maybe heat?

I have played for up to three hours straight without an issue and this is on a 6800.
To be a 7900 GT this weekend. w00t!

Nice to have the ability to do them simultaneously, though!

Close to maxing out my character :(,

I have an x800xt, too, and thus far not a single crash--solid as a rock for me. Am using the DHZer0point 6.3 drivers with Adaptive AA enabled (something the stock CATs won't let you do.)

It is well known universally that I do not make mistakes--so, if you should happen across an error in that which I have written, please be assured that *I* did not write it!...:)

Hmm, wait, so do I need to have two cards in Crossfire mode in order to use this patch?
