  • Neverwinter Nights 2
    There's a Neverwinter Nights 2 Preview on Eurogamer that mainly consists of an interview with Obsidian Entertainment's Feargus Urquhart about the upcoming RPG sequel: "I've always looked at Neverwinter as a combat-centric RPG, in comparison to something like Planescape: Torment. It's a little more focused on the strategy of combat. So, with that, we didn't want to lose more from the story side of things - that's one of the reasons we added the companions; to give the player more to do. One of the core things we tried to do was try to give more things for the player to do and be interested in rather than just go and kill something. How we've done it is via the companions, but we've also done it by... well, one of the things we tried to do is to make things about the player."

    There's a World in Conflict Q&A on Computer and Video Games talking with Massive's David Polfeldt and Magnus "Soundboy" JansÚn about their just-announced RTS game: "The game has an extensive single-player campaign apart from multiplayer, so there's a lot to play around with for everyone. We have created the game that we really want to play for ourselves, and one that has a long lifetime. The online matches against friends (and foes) takes the experience to new heights, and the game becomes thrilling, varied, intense, surprising, and complex. When you play 8 versus 8, and you're in a good team - well, it's hard to find the right words for it, but it is a kick ass and profound experience at the same time. The adrenaline rush is very addictive!"

Without them, and without their cooperation, you won't be able to finish the game. Generally speaking, most of them could not be defined either as your friends, or as your enemies. They have their own designs, their own plans and goals, which can compel them to cooperate with you, but only so far as it suits their needs, not yours."

Uhm Feargus isn't the one who left, Ferret Beaudoin (spelling?) is. J.E. Sawyer took over as acting lead designer, and Feargus is project lead or whatever it is called.

omg halfway thru the article i wanted to reach thru the screen and smash their face in. god who the fck wastes their life doing this kind of completely meaningless pedantic bs. People who play WoW 20 hrs/day make a greater contribution to society than these guys!

Come back tomorrow for Feargus on Obsidian's method of game creation, why characters are important and whether a game losing its lead designer at this stage in the development is something we all should be worried about.
