Oblivion Downloads

Obliviondownloads.com is now online (thanks Shacknews), offering sales of in-game items for Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. They have a couple of items listed as "coming soon," and are offering their first item, the same horse armor that was released for the 360 version on the Xbox Live Marketplace. We tried to calculate the amortized cost of a full expansion based on the item's $1.99 sale price, but it broke our calculator. We're not the only ones struck by this, Gamers With Jobs has a Q&A with Bethesda Softworks' Pete Hines examining the justifications for this, learning, among other things, that this actually has nothing to do with expansion plans: "This has nothing to do with what we might or might not do with an expansion."

Come on, how long until someone does a mod for exactly what they are trying to charge for? PC gamers won't swallow this 360 crap...

Fucking A brother!

This is amazing, the shit they're pulling. $2 for "horse armor"?! Since you can't fight while on your horse, it's utterly useless. I've been enjoying a plethora of FREE mods and add-ons for a moment now... on my PC!

Anyway, let's do the math here...

$2000 for a HDTV and speakerset
$400 for the 360 (a lot of people probably payed more)
$60 minimum per game (let's not even talk about "special" editions)

That's to get you started. Let's see what else you're likely to buy:

$200 for all the extra crap in accesoires you'll buy in the console's lifetime
$70 for xbox live, per year!
... and God knows how much they bleed from you, using their latest tricks called "micro transactions".

Consoleboys are raving on about the graphics, resolution, online play, demo downloads etc while PC gamers have been experiencing those things for over a decade. And for a better price as well and without the corporate fleecing all the while.

Fuck I've been laughing my ass off over all the 360 nubs first asking "is the Oblivion toolset also available on the 360?" and then crying when they hear the answer. Hell I've been using the toolset almost as much as I have been playing the game, and I dare say it's just as fun!

But we shouldn't be too pissed off, I mean, finally games are being developed again like they should be, thanks to the new generation. I hope we can can get another two years until the 360 becomes hopelessly outdated again and games are, once again, dumbed down for the sake of consoles.
