Games Hits Funding Snag; Company to Suspend Production on Spend the Night Game
announces that Republic Games is suspending development of Spend the Night due
to a failure to inspire a third round of funding for the "erotically-charged
game" in spite of their best efforts:
"The past few weeks have been a rollercoaster for the company" said CEO, Robert Coshland. "We had a single day record of 1.8 million hits on our website, we're being included in a documentary on the future of video games, and we have over 100 people join our mailing list everyday. Unfortunately game development is expensive and attention doesn't translate into operational funds. " Coshland indicated that 12 people were affected by the shut down. "Republik Games intends to focus on raising new capital. It's not just an incredible product-it's a solid business proposition and we have the research, the materials, and the numbers to back it up."

C'mon you can't tell me that satisfying two women simultaneously as Kratos, button mashing desperately to make that damned vase fall, and getting a health/energy boost from it wasn't totally rad to the max. As campy as it was, it was really refreshing to see considering how politically correct/conformist most devs are becoming these days, not taking chances etc. I say more sex, in existing videogames.

Why would you make a soft-core game when the same dudes that may be interested in it are already up to there eyeballs in hardcore internet porn?

That game's been in development for at least two years? What the ...? Is there something I'm not getting? A team of 12+ people? And all they have to show for it is two screenshots?it's a sex-game, they were only typing with one hand.

You'd think this game would be a perfect fit with a porn distributor like Vivid Video or something: cut a deal to slap Jenna Jameson on the box in exchange for funding and the rest will take care of itself.
