I mean, the combat system is a lot of fun in one vs one battles, but it becomes useless to the player in battles vs multiple opponents.
I'd probably argue even with the 'fun in one vs one battles' part. It can be fun, assuming that the rules are fair. But the number of times the rules have been broken in the AI's favour is starting to seriously annoy me. I mean, I swing my sword, the other guy blocks. I start staggering backwards, completely unable to do anything for a few seconds, and he pounds on me. Ok, fine. So he swings his sword and I block. I then try to pound on him, but he's already recovered and is swinging again. He hits, and again, I go staggering, and he's fine. Meanwhile he's dancing around like mad, coming close to teleporting speed, making it extremely difficult to keep him in front of me - not a problem for him.
I know the combat system has its pluses, but I find a lot of stuff like that really takes away from it. Oh, and the swing queueing. I try to do a couple swings, first one is blocked, I stagger, I try to raise my shield to block, only to have it try and swing again after the staggering is done. "No, you idiotic computer, I was trying to swing 5 seconds ago, now I want to ^@!^#$ block". But no, need to swing first.
Bleah. But yes, fighting multiple opponents is worse. Especially when they are all dancing all over the place. Even worse when there are friendlies, as it seems impossible to not accidentally hit them.
