but it leaves out the one critical category... games. I mean their suggestions are nice if all you want to do is work and organize your media crap. But I gotta have the games...

"God isn't interested in technology. He cares nothing for the microchip or the silicon revolution. Look how he spends his time, forty-three species of parrots! Nipples for men!"
"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts." -- Bertrand Russell (I think...)

Linux is never going to be a mainstream option until:

1. Adobe ports its apps.

2. The top Windows games are ported over on a regular basis. And I don't mean ones from five years ago!

3. That whole weird swap disk partitation thing is sorted out and installation is simplified.

4. They have the money to fight Microsoft's FUD campaign.

I've been tooling around with Ubuntu at work and it's 9 parts frustration to 1 part pleasure. The sense of achievement when I get it to do what I want is something I haven't felt with computers for years. Takes me back to when I first had my own computer (a ZX81!).

It's like when the baby cries all night and then finally falls asleep for an hour at 3am -- the people who manage to avoid talking about Starforce for one fucking thread are that precious hour.
