DOOM 3 DungeonDoom

Version XP8.0.1 of the DungeonDoom modification for DOOM 3 is now available offering more RPG gaming based on id's shooter sequel. Word is: "The new version (includes) a new sword wielding combo rich character class, "The Ninja". This new character can wield several types of swords. Several keystroke combinations can be learned and extended to shoot magic projectiles, slow down time, inflict group damage, teleporting etc. New monsters including katana-wielding skeletons, gelatinous cubes and virtual soldiers. Additional unique monster skills have been included. A virtually endless wilderness, including a city, quest destinations and a pyramid, which serves as the entrance to the extended system of dungeons. You will also encounter monsters of varying toughness. Also new is a night-day cycle, which affects the types of monsters encountered in the wilderness."

Hi guys!

To answer some of your questions:

Lights: there are three different lightlevels available to choose from at startup + optional ambient light and various light sources can be bought at the shop. Some of the screenshots show relatively low light settings (which is what I prefer personally).

Monsters: There are no monster closets. Monsters spawn randomly and you can never predict which monster will attack you at which time. The game is tough, which was labled very welcome by some but as unbalanced by others. You won't encounter unbeatable monsters right at the start though and you can develop your character to beat tougher enemies later on.

Expansion Pack: There are two versions of the mod: an older version which works without the add-on and a newer version which requires Resurrection of Evil. The newer version has a lot more features.

CGW review: I actually liked the review - and the verdict was better than some popular commercial games (such as X3 reunion). Some of the issues are hopefully fixed in this revised new version and PC Gamer published a more positive review this month.

Cheers,

Hellborg

Can someone tell me - is there light in this game? Can you see in front of you? And, more importantly, did they get rid of using monster closets, or is that part of the Doom3 code?

"Wow, a mod that requires the game's expansion to be installed?! That seems utterly crazy to me. Mods are hard enough to get players on without requiring a commercial addon."

Creative… but unbalanced and monotonous.
Verdict: 2.5 Stars

Anyone see that Ninja Tournament link? Swing the sword by swinging around the mouse... Die by the Sword style!
