It triggers the rush you felt when playing the FPS’s of old, but with a 21st century face lift - giving you all the graphics and fragging mayhem you’d expect from a cutting edge title. We felt as if FPS games had become stale, this is fresh. It makes the player take notice and smile uncontrollably, like they’re seeing an old friend for the first time in years. That’s what we wanted. To make the player say ‘Wow, I never thought it could be like this.’ We’ve taken the player out of the sandbox and dropped them in the middle of a themepark with no lines in sight."

Sometimes you should be able to avoid battles entirely and sneak by unnoticed. Sometimes you can make your life easier by using some handy device, a machine or a robot for example."

And I bet the gameplay will probably be 5 times better than Quake 4.

I'm sure it won't be as innovative as the developers claim it will be but I will be happy with a nice little UT2004 clone for $20 to be honest. It's obvious leftovers from what would've been Pariah 2 but I still think it has some good potential. It probably won't have a big online community but everyone who gets it will be playing botmatches.

It's not as easy to make compelling singleplayer games as it is to make multiplayer ones. You'd be surprised at how little multiplayer mappers know about singleplayer design. It's a different skillset and frame of mind.

One is like making an arena, the other is like making a theme park ride combined with writing a novel and filming a movie.

Quake 4 was a predictable, unimaginative game, but it was "painfully competent" as someone once said. There were no amateurish elements you find in so many singleplayer FPSes made by developers coming from other genres.
