Out of the Blue

Happy Fat Tuesday!

As noted on planet rome.ro, yesterday was the anniversary of the release of QTest (actually I think it was the 24th, but close enough for video games). Unbelievably, the multiplayer test for Quake was released (wait for it...) 10 years ago! Equally unbelievably this was covered here at the time (to my regret lots of older content here was deleted rather than archived). Where does the time go?

R.I.P.: WW II fighter ace Scott dies at 97.

Strange, I uploaded the ISO files for every single video game, ever, and downloaded a text file... but no ordinary text file. This shit has who shot JFK, what really happened in Roswell, where Osama is hiding at, what the CIA is really up to. And it has all your telephone calls too.

McGill, in Montreal.

Most of the country will tell me the cold we go through is nothing, but I'm just from southern Ontario. This kind of cold is the exception rather than the rule.

Bah! Don't listen to 'em. Winter in Montreal is no foolin' around. I was at Concordia during the ice storm in '98, and that weather was insane. Never seen anything like it.

Actually, there was a great poem about it that turned up in the subway in Toronto a few years ago that I've been trying unsuccessfully to track down ever since (would love it if someone knows who wrote it).. From memory, but basically:

Ice Storm
and cars like black beetles
crawl up the side of the mountain.

I trudge toward home and am reminded
that mine is a country where a man can die
simply by being caught outdoors.

q[According to this site - http://www.hdtvarcade.com/xboxlist.htm - there are quite a few that'll run at 720p, and a surprising few that supposedly run at 1080i. Just click the resolution labels to filter those titles.]

Cool thanks for the link! Nothing on there I'd want to own, mind you, but I had no idea there were actually that many titles that run in HD. Thought it was just Dragon's Lair (which, ironically, I already own on the PC along side Siberia).

Whenever it gets really cold I look up the weather in Winnipeg or Edmonton. That is some really cold weather.

Hell no I ain't going anywhere near New York. Speaking of which, isn't it a co-inky-dink that this picture was taken from the vicinity of the Blue Tower on the day this alleged beating/zit popping took place?

Coincidence? That doesn't even look like New York. Where the hell is that range located? That PAO office that shot that image is apparently within some Army Engineers unit, located out of Alabama.

Nope, the office crawl and same old baddies does get tiresome. But for some real fun crank up difficulty level to max.

I like the new "if you click on the page a full popup runs" script that's running now. The invasiveness of the ad script is getting really frustrating.

A switch to Firefox with aggresive denial of all features is coming soon to a desktop near me.

I remember the day the Diamond Monster came out. Taking an extended lunch from work to head out and pick up the card. I brought it back to work (was doing tech support for an ISP back then) and we installed it on one of our top end machines and then all 'ooohed' and 'ahhhed' over 3D graphics. Which subsequently got the rest of the guys to run and buy one and our system admin to order several so we could play on the office LAN.

We were poor nerds, so we couldn't afford LAN equipment, so we used null modem cables and daisy chained multiple pcs to eachother when the QTest came out and used the command line to get things rockin!

Eriksson told deputies that he was the passenger and that a man he knew only as "Dietrich" was behind the wheel. But detectives have been openly skeptical of the story, noting that Eriksson had a bloody lip and that the only blood they found in the car was on the driver's-side air bag.
