Half-Life 2: Episode One Update

A new Steam Update (thanks Frans) on Half-Life 2: Episode One discusses the add-on's plot and describes Valve's frustration at Half-Life 2's six-year development cycle as one reason for the move to episodic content. The update includes a thumbnail with a broken link to this screenshot and a broken link to the recent Robin Walker Q&A on Computer and Video Games.

If everything was perfect we'd get 8-10 hours for $20 every year or just under. How could you complain about that?

To be fair I'd much rather have new content every 6 months, than every year - every 3 months would be pushing it but I think 6 months would be pretty much ideal. Don't forget how quick technology ages... with only one a year, and factoring in the year already passed, you'd only be looking at maybe 3 years to work with, which would mean 3 episodes, before people move on to other games, which isn't very much. For episodic content to be successful and properly realised you'd need more than one release a year.
