Looks like EA dropped the ball on the EA downloader. It just gives me weird 1.12 patch errors when I try to download 1.2. Too bad too, I was hoping to have steam-like updating for Battlefield. Oh Well.

It's patchin' Time!

Now exactly what does accuracy on the sniper rifle and support weapons has been adjusted. What exactly does that mean? Are they more or less accurate now?

You can still bunny hop, you just can't fire while hopping.

I'm going to wait for the servers to update.

Patch Impressions Feb 14, 2006, 14:41
Feb 14, 2006, 14:41

Initial impressions from a sad pathetic man who has logged over 300 hours in BF2 (though some have logged over 1900...)

Dolphin Diving is gone. Kaput. Can't do it. Unfortunately the implementation also did what I worst feared, which is that they made it so that you can't throw C4 or mines while in midair for that extra "oomph". You can still prep a grenade/flash and jump just before you throw to get the oomph, but this is going to seriously piss off a lot of people who use this (IMHO) legitimate tactic.

One interesting change is that you also can't fire while you're in the process of standing up, which helps prevent the "roll-bounce" maneuver. Good to see this, because if you dive to the ground, you have to commit to it now.

The choppers have less missiles, but the missiles seem to do more damage. The HIND seems to have more armor.

AA is *drastically* improved. Maybe almost too much so, because every single one will hit dead on helis even if moving perpendicular. Makes flying helis a lot more cautious, and I'm glad they did it, because helis now have about tank-level survivability, but they are still pretty effective if flown correctly. No more circle hovering, cuz you'll just get AA'd to hell.

Heli Guided missles have a shorter range, but only to about 300m instad of 550m, so they are still reasonably effective at a distance, just not so much to be used as a full on standoff weapon, but great for popping up over ridges.

Seeing the UAV kicks ass, if nothing than to make you way more paranoid. Haven't tested how destructable it is yet.

You now see rank next to the hover-text of people in your squad, which is kind of nifty.

Overall, I'm extremely pleased. The only other change I would like to see is an America-Army style m203, where the grenades dud out with around 10 or so feet, to prevent the "aim at foot" pushbuttoning. Outside of that, all the patch changes are well deserved.

Making the UAV visible to me was a big mistake, but we'll see how it plays out. What makes no sense whatsoever is that the thing is destructible. Can you confirm or deny whether it's possible to shoot UAV's down now?

To me, that is a game killer.
The C4 is impossible to use if you can't throw it.
It was best used on ceilings and walls.

I was wondering if that might happen.. such a drag, because it takes all the fun of finding clever/annoying hiding spots for the C4 if you can't paste it to sneaky places like that..

And what's all this about being able to see the UAV now? Use your words, people! Does this mean there are little unmanned planes flying all over the place now? Or is there something else going on?

Blue did link Fileplanet for once. It was pretty hypocritical of him not to while linking the other major exclusive hog, Gamespot, and others.

"Making the UAV visible to me was a big mistake, but we'll see how it plays out."

Seeing a UAV, would that change your mode of attack? Nah, but it might slow you down and make you a little more careful on how and when you attack a location or control point.

Now as for shooting down a UAV, I hope that isn't possible. If it is indeed possible, what is the point of destroying the UAV trailer?? Just locate the UAV and shoot it down. Getting a special forces team member to destory the UAV trailer and/or artillery is hard enough as it is.

Guess we will see. But over all the changes look good. Just need to get home and download the patch.

Yes, did it twice during my 1h session after installing the patch. I kinda like it. There's no points for destroying it, though, but I have no problems with that.

Just a FYI, the commander will not lose the ability to launch more UAVs if you shoot down an UAV. He'll just have to wait until the UAV recharges.

And what's all this about being able to see the UAV now? Use your words, people! Does this mean there are little unmanned planes flying all over the place now? Or is there something else going on?

There's one radio controlled plane looking thing (the UAV :D) circling over the area where the UAV has been deployed.

Do you have to be an air unit or in a vehicle to shoot it down?

COME ON PEOPLE! NEED THE INFO!

You get points for blowing the trailer not the UAV. It makes things a bit more "realistic". I think its nice that you can potentially know when an enemy UAV is scanning your area.
