As promised, the new Battlefield 2 patch is now available, updating the military
shooter sequel and its Special Forces expansion to version 1.2. The patch notes
with details on the update were released yesterday (story).

How much are you actually playing the game if you're really bothered by these insiginificant things? Personally I'm glad they focused on fixing the actual gameplay.
(Note: it's not improbable to think that they removed the effects because of the lag it caused people without uber setups, ie. who still wanted shadows on other things. Or perhaps it was just a sideffect of some renderer optimizations.)
