Ya...we need Enahs, our resident health/fitness guru to chime in here...

I was not going to say much….but it turned into a small book!

Do you guys know basic physics? How is it logically possible to gain weight if you eat the same amount of energy that your body needs to survive? Please explain, it will be a huge breakthrough in all known science.


Physics and Chemistry combined with Biology are two completely different things.
Modern physics will tell you there is enough energy in one snickers bar to power your local city for anywhere from 1 day to many weeks (obviously depending on where you live).

First let me say, I think based on some small knowledge that I have about the statistics that 99% of the people who are over weight are, as you say by choice.

But to say that there are not some people out their who have a genetic penchant for being over weight is naive.
For the human body to function properly it needs a certain amount of sugars, fats, salts and acids regularly. There are disease/genetic conditions that keep you body from properly digest or absorbs any one of those and in order to reach that minimum your body needs (and will crave until it gets it) you must eat too much of something else. There are also diseases/disorders that cause certain parts of your system to over work, 24-7. As a result, your body requires more of certain things, it will crave those things until it gets it, and as a result you can over eat. There are certain diseases/conditions that cause parts of your system to not work strong enough and as a result other things do not function properly.

99% of overweight people do not have those all the time. But even if you do not have those problems 24-7, or you are not over weight your body can still temporarily have those symptoms.
When you (you as in anybody) get a craving for a certain food, it is your body telling you it thinks it needs something, it is demanding you to supply it with nutrients of some kind. The trick in losing weight and being healthy is getting the variety of fats, sugars, salts, vitamins and acids you need daily from a variety of different sources. Just ask any woman who has been pregnant or had PMS, they know about cravings that their body actually needs (the whole system is enhanced during those timed due to hormones and such).

But if you do have a condition that would genetically make you favorable for being over weight, you would have A LOT of other problems. Most people have problems because they are over weight.


There's no law that says 'Sugar tastes good, I MUST EAT IT'.
Yes there is. Fruits where not plentiful back in the day when we could not farm, sugar is a part of living…so evolution has taught us to eat a lot. But that is still no excuse for people going to excess, that is why we have a conscious brain and can make our own decisions.


If you are fat, and you intake fewer calories than your body needs to stay alive, then your body will burn your fat to keep you alive, thereby causing you to lose weight.

No it will not. If you eat to few calories your bodies metabolism and mechanism to lose weight will simply shut down. You will not lose any fat, just water and muscle mass and you will cause small but avalanching damage to your internal organs.


Let's say for the sake of argument that there are some people who need only 500 calories a day to stay alive, walk around, do all the normal things people do. Let us say that this person is 100 pounds overweight, and that each pound of fat can be burned by the body to generate 100 calories. Therefore, each day that the person eats only 400 calories, they will burn one pound of fat.

If this example doesn't make sense to you, please kill yourself, because you are too stupid to
exist in any sort of semi-advanced society without well-meaning people endlessly giving you hours and hours of guidance.

The average person has to burn 3600 calories to lose 1 pound of fat. But first they must use up all the extra sugars in their muscle (where the energy first comes from) before it will even being to convert the fat. So the average person to burn 1 pound of fat needs to burn 4000 calories.
In order to do that you must jog for roughly 4000 minutes. It is not easy losing weight, and why it takes a long time to do it healthy. And again, if you do not eat enough calories your body will shut down.

The problem you seem to be having is you think 100 calories is 100 calories. It is NOT. If you need X amount of something and you do not get it, your body will not work right, will not burn calories right, and demand you keep eating until you get what it needs. Hence, healthy eating and variety of food to get what you need and not have the cravings.

If you eat less than your bodies daily caloric intake, and it is not the right nutrition’s your body needs on that day, it will simply slow systems down and lower your required caloric intake. And you can keep doing this until parts of your system shut down.

It is not easy to lose weight fast; it is easy however to lose weight over a long period of time with moderate dieting and exercise. It is just hard for people when they do not see immediate results.



I completely agree with you that virtually every “fat” person you see is fat because they have made bad decision; and I think it is stupid to put out the notion it might be genetic since they will just use it as an excuse. But it is a possibility; but most people cause the symptoms because of what they eat, not the other way around.
