Lionhead in Play?

Lionhead back in acquisition talks with key publishers announces that the developer is engaged in talks over a potential acquisition, though the reports are unofficial, attributed to "sources close to" the company. The story goes on to suggest that Microsoft and Ubisoft are said to be the most interested suitors, but that market leader EA has ruled themselves out as a candidate to pick up Lionhead.

I'd rather them stay independent, but Ubi sounds like the lesser of the evils.

Yeah that seems to be the 'Circle of Life' among PC Devs.
Start Company
Make a few games
Get purchased by publisher
Get pissed at publisher
Leave company
Start new company
Rinse Repeat.

Totally agree Awesome Spume. But might I add:

Sells out.
Gets shut down.
The few people who got paid off start new company.
Makes crappier games.
Becomes successful and starts the process again.

What a hot development studio to own! Ubisoft has a very rich history, and the two of them together could be amazing. I really hope they don't get bought by Microsoft because that would mean Xbox 360 exclusives - and hence where we part ways.

I'd be pretty doubtfull that it would be EA.
Peter Molyneux has already been through one of their aquisitions before (when EA bought Bullfrog) and wouldn't want to go through that again.

Microsoft = Xbox360 Exclusives
EA = EA
Ubisoft = Best Choice

I'd rather not see another developer swallowed up by a large publisher, but Ubisoft seems to be the one least guilty of assimilating and ruining those they acquire. I'd like to see Elevation try to pick them up again, though they probably won't after buying BioWare and Pandemic. At least then it's an investment company, not another publisher.
