Afraid There's No F.E.A.R. Patch Yet

VU Games Community Forums have word that the version 1.03 patch for F.E.A.R. is still a ways off, in spite of reports that it would be released yesterday (story). There are comments from the Community Manager saying they don't know the originations of this story, claiming it was unofficial information, even though it was based on a VU Games Press Release.

I liked it too. I wouldn't mind if it was an option in every shooter. You certainly don't havta use it if you don't like it. More of a Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast player death sequence woulda been nice in addition. You know, when the camera circles around the player in slo-mo when death occurs.

I felt the slo-mo added nothing to the game; it didn't add a tactical advantage since everything moved at the same speed.

Actually, your crosshair moved at normal speed giving you a tremendous advantage in aiming. Also, since everything is moving slower, it gives you MUCH more time to think about what you're going to do. For example, if you saw someone raise their gun at you in slow motion, you'd have more time to decide if you were going to shoot first, run, throw a grenade, etc.

Actually, the person activating it moved at the same speed that they do normally, everyone else moved slower. The crosshair didn't slow down at all.

The crosshair seemed to move slowly too.

Don't remember it doing that. If the crosshair does slow down it slows down much less than the enemies.

It looked cool, but that's about it.

I never used bullet time the first time through. The second I did, and the game was ultra-easy.

I think there were way too many buttons for the game, though. I use esdf and have a 5 button mouse, so I can't imagine what wasd 3-button mousers did.

Buttons needed for:
Use
Reload
Grenade
Bullet time
Lean Left
Lean Right
Flashlight
Melee
Zoom
Crouch
Jump

All on top of movement and firing.
Just a few too many there. I put the 'nade button within easy use the first time through, switched it with bullet-time the second.

I hope they include more mutliplayer CTF maps, especially like the urban one.

I'd wait for a patch that optimizes the damn engine!

LOL, twice it has happened to me that I've put together a new and reasonably stout computer only to have the misfortune of Monolith releasing a new game around the same time. It's a humbling experience.

They make purdy engines but I wish they could crunch the code a bit better.

While I personally don't like bullet-time either, the nice thing about F.E.A.R. is that it is optional. I played through the entire game on the highest difficulty setting without ever using it.

Yeah I was actually kind of dissapointed with the game the first I played through it. The second time I played through on the hardest setting and had my arse handed back to me many a time, but it was still more fun.

...but they did explain it. It's because of his fast reflexes, and you pick up reflex boosters to extend your reflex meter.

Ah...I think it was because of your character's link with Fettle's origin? Either way it was a pretty cheap way to give your character slomo and link them to the story. At least given the story type it was an explanation. Though I'll admit I kind of stopped paying attention to the storyline about 3/4 through.

with no explanation as to "why" its in there, it just "is" Uhm ok? I dont need my action slowed down thank you very much.

In multiplayer, simply avoid the servers running the "slo-mo" game types, which is easy to do since not many people play on them.

Sierra made a mistake and is just denying they had any involvment.
That's par for the course from Vivendi.

Given the continued delay if the v1.03 update is as screwed up and lacking as the previous two updates and the so-called SDK, some personnel changes are definitely in order.

As someone who plays MP FEAR at least 2 hours a day, I'm very disapointed about the delay. I was very excited about the rumored 3 new maps, map vote, Punkbuster, and other tweaks. I wish I didn't know now, since it might be a month or so before we see it the way they are talking now.

At the beginning of the game they mention how the player has unprecedented "reflexes". And why complain? You can't tell me it isn't cool seeing those grenades go off in slow-motion, seeing the shockwave and the parts flying off the enemies.

sigh...

So either someone spread a rumor that sites just accepted and posted as fact, or Sierra made a mistake and is just denying they had any involvment.

Bah, back to my 360.
