Morning Q&As

  • Fatal1ty
Gamecloud's Fatal1ty Q&A talks with pro gamer Jonathan Wendel about his career as a gamer and as a brand name: "I would say a huge amount. I fly to Singapore, Taiwan, Seoul, San Jose and many other places to meet with engineers and designers and help develop these products. I give them insight, as a top gamer, to how I would want my equipment built so I could game at the highest level. So I’m involved from the design, to the specific details, such as what kind of fabric or plastics to use and what kind of technology is best for gaming."
  • DICE Summit
The Road to DICE: Joseph Olin on Next Generation fills us in on what we are missing at the imminent DICE Summit: "The first day is a Golf tournament followed by endless networking." Yowza!
  • Rick Dakan
Gamecloud's Geek Mafia Q&A talks with City of Heroes designer Rick Dakan about his new novel.

Oh, puh-LEEZ! Get over yourself. I love my gaming as much as the next guy, but it's a VIDEO GAME. It's not like you're actually contributing anything to the betterment of society or providing key insights into materials science. You're an overgrown child with delusions of granduer. Get a real job.

Since buying his peripherals I have not noticed my gaming skills have improved, however my girlfriend now says I make love like a Greek God. This is probably down to Fatal1ty branded products.

Mostly it's all about every marketing group in the world trying to manufacture the next Dogtown and Z-Boys phenomenon. Like... dude.

Now that's a really insightful comment. And the sad thing is when THAT movie comes out I'll watch it. Loved Dogtown - made me nostalgic for a time and place I wasn't part of. Cunning.

So, frankly I think pro gaming is boring as hell to watch. But ah, I remember Thresh from the bad old days. Has Fatal1ty surpassed him?

I remember Thresh's column in PC Gamer.

So, being a pro-gamer we can just coin new terms such as "E-sports" and such, right? You've gotta be kidding me. It's not like he overuses it in the interview or anything.

My favorite line though, is when he's asked if he'll still be gaming 10 years from now. He says of course, he doesn't know, but ... "The only thing I know is I really want the Fatal1ty brand to keep being a big part of the community and pushing this E-sport mainstream, while helping gamers and professional gaming competitions advance."

Riiiiiiight, let me give you all my money because you're just the greatest bestest pro-gamer around and I want to be just like you when I grow up one day!

More power to him though, I sometimes wish I could make money just playing video games and "designing" pro-gaming products :-P

Because who else should be telling engineers and designers the specific details about what plastics to use then some caffine pushing kiddy that didn't graduate high school because he was refining his Mad Sk1llz.

Seriously though, I'm sure he did graduate(maybe) but I really think "pro" gaming is a joke and contradicts the essense of a video game and dont really give a #@$% if someone is twitchier then everyone else at a shooter or whatever.

Maybe the asians dig it, I dunno.

I can just picture Carmack behind him holding a white sack with a dollar sign on it.

Well, it wouldn't be Carmack, but who the hell else works at Id these days? I couldn't think of any other names.

Quake 4 has fewer players online now, during its peak, then Quake 3 currently does. It has less than Swat 4 and Vietcong. It has less than a third of SoF2. It has half of Halo.

It might have twice FEAR, but it's not taking off, and unless monetary payments are involved from publisher to league... I can't see it taking off as the "next big competitive game."

I've noticed the last 2 times I've been in a store that sells video games that hte price on the CE and normal version of CoV has dropped to 39.99, then 29.99, and this weekend fry's had it for 19.99?! Did this game already hit bargain bin status? Seems like the CoH game held it's 50$ price tag for a lot longer.

With all due respect to the swell products Mr. Fatal1ty's endorsed, I still much prefer my Official Ted Williams Gaming Mouse, High performance Mousehand Glove, and Glare-resistant Eye Visor. They have caused my PONG scores to increase a consistent 6.2% in tests. I DO use Fatal1ty's High Resolution Tooth Enlightener Strips, though, and especially like his line of lawncare products.

Wow, now that Fatal1ty has said that Quake 4 multiplayer is the next big game, it will probably take off!

What a douche.

I don't even buy hardware anymore unless it is ensorsed by Mr. Fatal1ty. Since I got my Fatal1ty hardware, I'm kicking my granny's ass in most FPS games
