BF2 Patch & Euro Force Delayed

A Community Update on the Battlefield 2 Website (thanks Frans) confirms recent indications that the Euro Force booster pack for Battlefield 2 is delayed (story). It turns out that this is because the upcoming version 1.2 patch is also delayed, and the patch is a prerequisite for the booster pack. The ETA for the patch is "the next couple of weeks" while the new release date for Euro Force is "the latter half of February." The update also has word that while the ability to pick up mines has been removed from this patch because it's not ready, but the delay means other issues of concern to the community are being addressed, including the red-name bug that dates back to the original release of the military shooter. Here's the tentative good news on that:
Regarding the last point, what we have done is make the code more secure to try and prevent any cases where this bug may occur. Since the fix has been in place, we have had no reproduction of the bug in testing.

Yeah that's what I and everyone else thought at first. But you can't fix it with environment variables. It is in the registry.

Ok I'm going to find it right now...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

Change the entry for "ProgramFilesDir" from "C:\Program Files" to whatever you need.

Aha, well. It must use the default temp directories then.

They are using installshield so my gut feeling is that they obey the temp enviromental variables, but I do not know because I haven't tested it.

There is a painless workaround.

I can't remember the details but you change your ProgramFiles setting in the registry.

i haven't noticed as many bugs as people are claiming this game has. I crashed to desktop once or twice, and i play alot. I'm currently a staff sargeant. I'm incredibly happy with this game, yes i know that the in game server browser sucks, but for the amount of fun i get out of it, i can pay that price. Bunny hoppers don't trouble me either. I just concentrate with my DAO-12, wait until their feet hit the ground, squeeze off a couple of rounds, and before you know it they are dead. I have to highly recommend unlocking that gun. That is if you don't give a shit about all the 1337 people accusing you of "noob tubing"... which i obviously don't, they all die at my hands anyway...lol. Just hoping to offset some of the negativity going around. This game rocks.

Quboid has the right of it. I know it's pissed off more than a few people who run their Windows directories like a tight ship, so they can reformat every few months and only mess with that custom(small)-sized c: partition. I think even I ran into a problem with it until I deleted some long-since backed-up files on c:. Irritated me too, come to think of it, but it only took me 20 seconds to shift-delete and was able to get on with it.

I think he means the patch installer uses C:, not that it installs onto C:. It is presumably temporary data, but the room still needs to be available while you install the patch.

The patches extract to the C drive before running against the installation. At least that is what I heard. I do not own the game but had other patches and software that have the C drive hard coded for installation/extraction which annoys me. I have a 1GB hard drive on C just for Windows, that way I can reinstall more easily

The Special Forces installer detected my install in E:\Games\BF2 successfully. Same did the 1.12 patch.

I haven't used the earlier patches, so I can't comment on their install procedures, though.

And what requirement is that? I have BF2 + exp1 and latest patch and my game is installed on my E:\ partition.

I have noticed no problems with this config.

And here I am, back at playing Counterstrike - casually! - after taking a year long break. No issues at all, Steam took care of all the downloading and updating and it's great fun. And it runs at 1600x1050 widescreen on my antique Ti4200. Wow!

Well, it took a long time to get BF42 all patched up so I'm not expecting this to be any different. As long as they address the issues that most people complain about I'm happy. (bunnyhopping is fine though, its part of the game and has been since '42).

I'm happy that they are patching the game but it's really annoying to see them planning even more expansions and such to this game when so many things are still left to be fixed.

They claimed they couldn't reproduce the bug anyway so saying it didn't occur in testing is sort of uneccessary, no?

BTW, just found out Point of Existance 2 is only 50% done

All I know is if they make another Battlefield and it doesn't come with Connect to IP or a favorites list, then we just know they don't give a crap and throw together a game. How after numerous requests to put it in Vietnam, do you go ahead and not put favorites list on your next game? It's just terrible. I also love how the sorting doesn't work once your in the favorites list. God I love battlefield.

Glad to see they're aware of at least a few of the long-standing bugs in the game.. that red/blue glitch was pretty annoying (although it was also usually amusing by nearly equal measure).

Now I want to see a fix for the bug that allows your legs to clip through walls when you're prone.. In one of the most technologically advanced shooters on the market.

FFS! IT'S THE BLOODY YEAR 2000, DICE!!
