Crysis Announced

EA and Crytek Announce Development of Crysis has the official announcement of the next project from Crysis, a first-person shooter due in 2007:
CHERTSEY, UK - January 30, 2006 - Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS), the world's leading interactive entertainment software company and award-winning developer Crytek, today announced they will bring Crysis, an exciting new first person shooter, to gamers worldwide. Developed by Crytek, the makers of the award-winning Far CryTM, Crysis will be an original first person shooter game for PC based on new intellectual property.

"Our focus has always been on innovating gameplay and technology, and bringing new experiences to gamers through our original intellectual properties," says Cevat Yerli, CEO & President of Crytek. "Crysis will be a showcase for that commitment and will offer gamers from all over the world the next step in FPS gaming."

Shooter fans will face a new kind of gameplay challenge requiring adaptive tactics and customisation of weapons and armour in dynamic, hostile environments as mankind struggles to survive in the face of a horrific alien invasion.

Crysis will bring together the creative and technical talent of Crytek with the publishing expertise and unrivalled reach of Electronic Arts. Crysis is to be published by EA following the worldwide relationship announcement between the two companies and is being developed using the leading-edge technology of Crytek's proprietary engine CryENGINETM 2.

"We are delighted to reach the next level in our relationship with Crytek," says Tom Frisina, Vice-President and General Manager for EA Partners. "Nurturing creative talent and bringing original intellectual property to the world of interactive entertainment is a key focus for EA and EA Partners. Crysis will bring an entirely new FPS experience to gamers everywhere."

FFS! Call of Duty 2 was NOT a brand new engine! It was the fucking old Q3-based engine with a wad of reverse engineering and a load of shaders bolted on top... How else can anyone explain why the gameplay dynamics are almost identical and the DX7 mode looks almost identical to a Quake 3 Team Arena outdoor map!

Well I mean finally games are being made again like they can and *should* be made, thanks to the next generation in consoles finally being upon us.

All too long have games been dumbed down on graphics & scale for the sake of consoles.

I guess we can ride this for two or maybe three years, when consoles will be far inferior to PCs again and consoles will once again limit the scale of the game.

Oh and remember Sony saying "the PS3 will last 8 years". That's like six years of limiting instead of the what, three we had now?

Funny how consoles never seem to surpass PC's, take CoD2 for example...

Consoles, why you cramping our style man?

Didn't you get the memo? All games are now being made for the Xbox 360 since it's so bad ass.

CoD, GTA:SA, NOLF, BF2, JO - each game has a memorable parachte jumping scene. However, Crysis will be different due to the very extreme (in all senses of the word) real-time plummet to earth. Modelled on the physics of gravity, wind and atmospheric pressure, you'll have to guide your character from the moment he leaves the aircraft, through the volumetric clouds, until he lands on the island archipelago. Your landing position will depend on your jump - so you might have to swim to shore if you splashdown in the sea, or be ready fo an instant firefight if you accidentally land in the middle of a North Korean army base.

Sorry for the slight cut off of the text - was in a hurry when I scanned them. They are suitably huge to make up for it though.

Some shots are at http://screenshots.teamxbox.com/gallery/1396/Crysis/p1/

Those shots are from the old CryENGINE 2 alpha build tech demo video (from September 2005) that was just recently put online as a direct feed version. The new magazine screens are much, much better. I'd like to use the F word here because they are so amazing looking

Actually you could also refer to it as "western Asia" or "north Africa" by that logic.

Pathetic Americans...

Or, more likely, he didn't realize that Crytek was in Germany and expected one of the Russian satellites, which are absolutel Eastern Europe (or Western Asia.)

Maybe CryTek only had a one-game 'deal' with UbiSoft?

Not really, Crytek licensed the FarCry franchise and engine to Ubisoft. This means FarCry 2 is in the works and will be published by Ubisoft using the new CryEngine.
