I for one would love to see a FS3 no matter who does it. I’m a gamer first. You never know. Derek could create a game that you could really like but I guess we will never know.

Surely you'd want to see - regardless of genre or license - a good game, though? Because that's what this whole thing is about from my perspective; a bad sequel would effectively kill the vast amount of work that's been done with FS2 and the source code.

I hate to say it guys but he may be correct. Publishers just dont see the numbers to doing space games much anymore. Granted, you do have games like X3 but those are few are far between. Now days publishers shovel out FPS and Sims.

I'd say being a man who seemingly resents having to make an instruction manual would be somewhat of a barrier to an FS-style game, too. I mean, accessibility isn't his byeword, is it?

Bingo. First, Derek would have to deal with two separate codebases - the UC code and the Freespace code. Building FS3 off his UC code would look like total shit, and you'd need a keyboard chart that would put War and Peace to shame due to its length.
If he tried to put his neural network bullshit into the FS code it would probably take 10 years and 50 patches just to get it to work right. He would brag about the 30 unique features he plans on adding to the game (AMAZING ASTEROID AI!) but in the end only 2 will make it into the final product. Then he would put 2 of the previously planned features into the "Gold/Platinum/Silver/Uranium" version and charge you another $30 (unless you're a "loyal fan" i.e. bootlicker - then you only have to pay $20).

Then FS3 would need some semblance of a storyline, and I seriously doubt Derek could handle that. UC/BCM/BC3K has no story - you're some Starfleet bozo flying around in space with a bad attitude and a 30,000 metric ton nuclear powderkeg at your disposal. Period. That's less plot than a porno movie.

Could you imagine if Derek had to deal with the FreeSpace customers and fans? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

In summary, if Derek Smart touched the Freespace license, it would end up a bigger disaster then the first release of BC3K. I'd rather the franchise stayed dead.

That must have been uncomfortable for him.

Apparently someone still does, because I saw a news report on a network affilliate website that was reporting how books meant for young adults contained "adult situations." lol...

As time went on he got dirtier and dirtier.
By the time I was like 9 and stopped reading he was talking about HS breasts and the desire for sex constantly.

The feature creep would hardly be a minimum. Go to avault and search what he said about it. He said it would be a campaign and after you beat it, it would go freeform. He also said it'd have bases you could land on and it would be FPS for those.

i wonder how many times derek smart has gotten his ass beat down in a bar... by just being himself

im thinkin double digits

I've asked people who've met him at events like E3, etc who say he's an affable fellow in person.

I've got no problem with him attempting FS3 but again, for chrissakes make it look next gen and keep the feature creep to a minimum.

Biggest issue I have is Derek using that fucking renderer of his. If FS3 doesn't look AT LEAST as good as EVE/X3 then why bother? Just do a mod with the old build.

Ok then Derek, how about you leave it alone, rather than piss all over something people have fond memories of so you can sell some copies to your mom, dad, and unexplainable "fanbase" (all 4.5 of them, you really cant count these people as whole humans).

What a freaking joke, threatening his version or nothing. You know you're doing a good job as a game dev when you say "I'm gonna make another game - DEAL WITH IT!" Will he ever realize how amazingly ridiculous he makes himself look.
