Man, it was a pretty sloppy bit of maintenance my ISP pulled off... my current mail is starting to arrive on time, but the backlogged stuff that arrived while they were messing around with stuff will apparently be trickling in for the next 12 hours or more... yeesh.

R.I.P.: 'West Wing' Actor John Spencer Dies at 58.

i never understood the fascination of that show.... for one thing, every single character has the exact same sense of humor - and they all have brilliant minds and encyclopedic vocabularies to boot

I too, always find that distracting, it was quite pronounced in Scully from the X-Files, but she was one well-educated person so I could buy it, in real life there is always that one person that has read more and thinks faster then most. Dawson’s Creek, however, pure bullshit, if I ever went to that town my brain would melt.

I can see me ordering a latte and getting an asinine socio-political oral dissertation on the effects of my coffee purchase on the Columbian school system, or how my double shot speaks of my capitalistic greed and over-commercialization of my wants and desires, which she just might find kinda sexy.

Just give me my coffee you verbose, bloviating windbag, only to be lectured minutes later by the meter maid, as I am issued a parking ticket, on how unpaid parking tickets just widens the already stark gap between the haves and have-nots.

She will then cap everything off by nicely recommending an, up until now, virtually unheard of psychological school of thought that will help we with my obvious coffee addiction. Effectively exploding my brain.

Rumor has it that this is the last season of TWW. My wife and I are HUGE fans of the show, and we have seasons 1-5 on DVD, but you can clearly tell something happened when Sorkin left the show. We have watched the first 4 seasons over and over and the drama is so good, so compelling, that we can watch it repeatedly and still find it entertaining. To us, *that's* the hallmark of a quality show or movie.

As much as I love the show, it should end this year, unless Sorkin comes back ....

Click on the arrows to advance pages. Am I missing something?

In any case, as Enahs has established I'm retarded, so don't take my word for it.

John Spencer reminded me of my dad, who coincidentally also died of a heart attack earlier this year. Such sad news...

Sad to see him go.

I do not immediately recall hi having any "big" role in a movie I watched, but he always gave a good performance in the smaller parts he was in.

In The West Wing? He was phenomenal. I was interested what he could do as vice president next to Smits.
You will be missed, sir!

That's a real surprise and a shame. I agree that since Sorkin was forced out of West Wing, it has gone to crap (John Wells is famous for raping a show way beyond when it should have been allowed to die with dignity) but I continued to watch anyway just because it's still one of the better things on TV nowadays (which is pretty sad.) John Spencer was both a great actor and a good guy. I have no idea what the show is going to do now without him (I doubt they are even finished filming this season yet), but I hope John Wells finally lets it go.

I've only ever seen him on the West Wing
Then you've never seen The Rock?! Great action flick.

Sad news - he was one of those very good understated actors who you didn't realise at the time was acting. That's always the sign of a good actor, in my humble opinion. RIP.

I'm still surprised at how many people are apparently digging for a gmail invite. I created five more addresses for myself, then sent the rest of my invites to a automated invite site. That was how I got my invite in the first place, figure why not? By mid afternoon I had 95 responses saying my invitations had been accepted by so and so. Are there trawlers or bots picking up these things?

John Spencer will be sorely missed. I've only ever seen him on the West Wing but his performances on the show were damn good. He was probably the best actor on the show and I'd consider him one of the finer actors I've ever seen. He's also a great guy, from what I've read.

What a tragedy. I think they should just cancel The West Wing. It's gone downhill since Sorkin left. Now it will be without a soul.

Despite his low-key personality, I'm really going to miss him.

And what is good, Phaedrus, and what is not good -
