Snoopy & The Red Baron Take Flight

Break out the root beer, as Namco Games announces development of Snoopy & The Red Baron, a multi-platform arcade shooter that puts you behind the stick of Snoopy's legendary Sopwith Camel/doghouse. There's a gameplay movie on 3D Gamers, FileFront, and Worthplaying, and here's a bit on the game, which is due next year:
“This time I’ve got you, Red Baron! This time you’re mine!”…Leading video games publisher and developer Namco Hometek Inc. today announced "Snoopy(TM) vs. the Red Baron," an exhilarating aerial-based action adventure game starring Peanuts(R) top dog Snoopy and a cast of classic characters. While taking a nap atop his doghouse, Snoopy has a magical dream and becomes a World War I flying ace who must pilot his bi-plane in a heroic attempt to foil the plans of his arch-nemesis, the Red Baron. Featuring 50+ single-player and co-op missions, action-packed dogfights and customizable planes across six unique environments, "Snoopy vs. the Red Baron" will be coming to the PlayStation(R)2 computer entertainment system, PSP(TM) (PlayStation(R)Portable) system, Xbox(R) video game system and the PC in Fall 2006.

With boogiemen such as Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein so prominent in the national consciousness, it's only logical to leverage a property that contains the most horrendous boogieman of them all: THE RED BARON.

Admit it, you're scared, and therefore intrigued.

Snoopy's Christmas... Dec 13, 2005, 16:33

The news it came out in the First World War
The bloody Red Baron was flying once more
The Allied Command ignored all of its men
And called on Snoopy to do it again

Was the night before Christmas and forty below
When Snoopy went up in search of his foe
He spied the Red Baron and fiercely they fought
With ice on his wings, Snoopy knew he was caught

Christmas bells those Christmas bells
Ring out from the land
Asking peace of all the world
And good will to man

The Baron had Snoopy dead in his sights
He reached for the trigger to pull it up tight
Why he didn't shoot, well, we'll never know
Or was it the bells from the village below

Christmas bells those Christmas bells
Ringing through the land
Bringing peace to all the world
And good will to man

The Baron made Snoopy fly to the Rhine
And forced him to land behind the enemy lines
Snoopy was certain that this was the end
When the Baron cried out "Merry Christmas, mein friend!"

The Baron then offered a holiday toast
And Snoopy our hero saluted his host
And then with a roar they were both on their way
Each knowing they'd meet on some other day

Best xmas song ever!

I just hope there's a "turn blood and dismemberment on" switch. And a career mode from puppy to old age.

blame the publishers for foolishly pumping out sequel after sequel...simply because people keep buying them.

You do know that Snoopy fantasizes about "dog-fighting" with the Red Baron in the strips? There was even a song out a few decades ago about it. What do you think there going to do to Snoopy? What Affleck did to Daredevil?

blame the publishers for foolishly pumping out sequel after sequel or half-baked game ideas wrapped in a license simply because people keep buying them.

The people keep buying them and it's the publishers who are foolish?

Don't blame the developers for a lack of original ideas, blame the publishers for foolishly pumping out sequel after sequel or half-baked game ideas wrapped in a license simply because people keep buying them.

I like the idea of this game. Could be another Crimson Skies...but with a Snoopy theme. Thats what I'm going to keep telling myself anyway. I wish they'd released more games like that on the PC.

it's not like Schultz is rolling over in his grave...the Peanuts are damn near as commercialized as Coke.

still, wish my childhood would stop being coopted. i'm not as concerned with "is nothing sacred?" as i am with "do developers have NO original ideas anymore?!" can't help but agreee with sentiments like this: http://unclebear.com/comments.php?id=P2435_0_1_0
