On Human Head & RUNE 2

A post to the RuneGame.com Forums called 'So, If We Did Do Rune 2...' (thanks RuneGame and Frans) is written by Tim Gerritsen, who offers a timeline history of Human Head Studios while addressing the possibility of a sequel to RUNE, their third-person Unreal-engine melee combat game. While he stresses that the possibilities for a RUNE 2 hinge on the success of Prey, he does also hint that a little grassroots support is in order, and towards that end, a Create Rune 2 Petition is online. Here's a bit:
At the moment we are really concentrating on Prey. We are well aware that if we mess this one up, any hope of a Rune 2 ever will be pretty much be a pipe dream. Therefore we're doing our best to make sure we get it right. We have our fingers crossed that the playing audience will find that our efforts were well worth it. So far so good. Hell, we got to go through the hell of learning next generation content long before anyone else had to, and that alone gives us a huge leg up.

If you really want a Rune 2, though, you need to tell it to the publishers. We want a Rune 2 some day. We've always said that. It is the pubs you need to convince. They see a game with a so so meta critic score and a devoted, but smallish audience and sales that were good but not great. Of course you and we know different. Rune was a major labor of love, and I believe firmly that anyone who actually plays the game for more than an hour can see that (after the water level and all those crabs in caves, of course...) =]

Seriously, though. Make your voices known to the publishers. If we say, 'Rune has a truly fantastic following, even now, five years on' they just look at us like "Sure, five people, right?" If we show them forums, they just shrug. If this wonderful group of hard core, dedicated fans were to all shout at the publishers, however, that speaks volumens. If they know that people are stoked, that Rune really was an overlooked gem, and, most importantly, wallets would open at the sound of Rune II on a shelf, then they would listen.

Because publishers have such an EXCELLENT fucking track record of LISTENING TO WHAT THEIR CUSTOMERS WANT!

Approximate quote: "...and we are making Deus Ex IW 2/3 the length because we felt the first game was too long..."

When on how many forums and emails (especially my own) the people said otherwise. They weren't exactly publishers, but same context.

Yes Tim. Because publishers have such an EXCELLENT fucking track record of LISTENING TO WHAT THEIR CUSTOMERS WANT!

What the fuck? Hello? Are we talking about the same game industry / publishers here?

Oh, and if you knew that the water level and the crabs in the caves sucked, WHY THE HELL WAS IT IN YOUR GAME TO BEGIN WITH?

I think Total Annihilation is in the works but is called "Supreme Commander" or something.

And I fully agree with X-COM: Terror from the Deep 2. *looks over the shoulder at the original box...* Man have I wasted hundreds of hours in that game. I could waste hundred more...

And I may be the only one who thinks Die by the Sword was fun. Sure the controls were...different. But it really felt like YOU were cutting the flesh of the enemies, not just pressing a button and watching your avatar going through the animation rutines. DbtS 2 ftw!

Yeah, BG3's development at Black Isle was being headed by J.E. Sawyer and was intended to be in quite a different and darker direction than its predecessors.

Really?? I thought the starting of BG2 and that storyline was already pretty dark.

Fallout 3, as it was being developed by Black Isle as "Van Buren,"

Yes, I knew about Fallout 3 and VanB. It was supposed to be where you went around to different locations checking on the spread of some virus. I could be wrong, but I remember something about the main villain being a orbiting missile platform, threatening to blow the world up.

i cant believe this thread is over and no one said:::

TT was remade. Ok graphics werent overhauled much if at all, but the game is called Chris Sawyer's Locomotion. Its got inflation factored in, a "Transport Index" and a very realistic fluctuating economy. Well worth a look.
No, it's not worth a look at all IMHO. It is a severe disappointment. TT was a 1995 game. Locomotion is maybe a 1997 or 1998 game. I'm not referring to the graphics, I am referring to AI more retarded than Zeph and Kootur put together. But I'd love a proper remake of that.

Outlaws 2... glad to see Halsy and others are flying that flag Give it to me Lucas, it's the least you can do after making me watch those fucking shit movies of yours.

Theme Hospital 2 would be a lot of fun...

People's choice award to Streets of Rage 4

And, by way of one that actually is being made... it's about time the GTA series got a new graphics engine. Physics would be nice too.

Well if there can be a call for "Deus Ex 2" then I want "Tribes 3" done by Dynamix (the original developers).

Tribes: Vengeance does not exist IMHO.

Mr. Lolicon:

Yeah, BG3's development at Black Isle was being headed by J.E. Sawyer and was intended to be in quite a different and darker direction than its predecessors.

Fallout 3, as it was being developed by Black Isle as "Van Buren," is now simply a title that Bethesda acquired the rights to. They are developing it as a new from-the-ground-up game and won't be using any of the work or concepts that Black Isle had done.

Jedi Knight / Dark Forces - I confess the first one, Dark Forces, was probably my favorite of the series. I'd probably still spring for another if they did one, though, hope springing eternal and all that.

Ok ok im all red eyed thinking of what should be made next, and as I search my little carnage heart for the answer i find a suprise. 3 old obscure titles that should be remade

Elite4 dosent count as its already comming.

SunDog 2 by FTL omg most you guys prob say to yourself wha the fu is a sundog lol but a few of us oldtimers know the deal.

CovertAction 2 Microprose Sid Meer, One of the best and feature rich games that ive ever had fun with period.

DungeonMaster 2 FTL Another Masterpiece trust me it was the game that started the revolution we have today in FPS's and anything 3D.

btw Elite2 has been out 15 years ago, we are now up to the 4th in the series. please hurry up Mr Braben and no more coasters lol.

I'd like to see Diablo3, a fps game.
Diablo was such mindless fun.

On D2, I grew a sorcerer on that weak-ass breath weapon spell "inferno". LMFAO! At high levels, that shit goes across the whole screen & she pretty much kills everything with a spell that's about as powerful as any, lasts longer, is easy to change the aim, and makes you grin with wicked happiness.

But really, who's doing System Shock 3 and when's it coming out? Me wants it!

* Baldur's Gate 3

Yeah...I remember reading in an interview somewhere about the beginning of this game when it was still in development. It was quite a bit different than the beginnings of the first two games. Baldur's Gate took up a summer or two for me. I had a badass commando thief going on there once

Fallout 3

Hasn't this been picked up by another development company?

Jedi Knight / Dark Forces

Bleh, Star Wars just needs to finally let up for awhile.
