Given how the American culture exonerates many famous individuals despite their murky past, that should be smallest obstacle.
And Gates is far from the only person in the corporate world who is guilty of questionable business practices. He's just the most noticeable.

As an indiviual Bill Gates is as philanthropic as they come. If he's lucky he'll be remembered for his charitable foundation rather than for his business practices.
