Out of the Blue

The curtain is about to fall on the final act in the saga of our Thanksgiving leftovers. We'll make a quick trip to my dad's to share the last of the turkey salad and bestow a gift of the last of the gravy, which would just go to waste if we kept it.

Come to think of it, I'm not sure what you could do to stop it.

There are quite a few chemicals you can use to stop it as there are quite a few things that react with iron oxide more readily than aluminum oxide, and vice versa. Though, due to the heat it would take an awful lot really fast to ‘get past’ the heat to get to the iron or aluminum oxide and use them up. But, it is nothing you will have unless you live in a chemical supply shop so be careful and play with it in a friend’s garage and now your own!

Yeah, and the Feds just started logging IPs when that first line got posted.
The instructions are on Wikipedia!

Aluminium powder, iron oxide powder, mix it up, whack a sparker in there (or if you have any magnesium ribbon lying about). Oh, and stand back. A long way.

And don't bother with water, that reaction is self-sufficient from the oxygen in the iron oxide. It'll be perfectly happy to continue the fun underwater. Come to think of it, I'm not sure what you could do to stop it.

I started tinkering around with The Movies... WTF is up with having to play through the story mode in order to unlock stuff? Isn't "sandbox mode" supposed to be just that, a sandbox where you can do what the heck you want? After the tutorial, I'm not interested at all in playing the main game, I just want to make some cool stuff!

Nin and space captain were right, the in-game tools look rather limited which is pretty disappointing. Hopefully Lionhead will release more tools to let you build sets and have more control over the camera, etc. In the meantime though I found this site:

http://tmws.themoviesplanet.com/

They have tools that let you change costumes around, and extract from the .pak files. So far it's possible to completely change the beginning and ending titles/credits, change backdrops, retexture sets and characters, and add more stuff to the lot. So there is hope... I can't wait to see what happens once they crack the model format.

C.S. Lewis was an atheist who came to Christianity later in life and ended up as a very devout Christian. As others have said the Narnia books are a retelling of various Biblical stories, although in a fairly veiled way. I really recommend reading them -- I don't think I've read them in around 15 years myself, but they're excellent reading, and I'm hardly a religous person.

Oh and Tim -- it's not right to bash all Christians for the views of a few extremists, any more than it is to bash all Muslims. But if you haven't figured out that Halsy hates all religions, and unequally, then I don't know what website you've been reading.

And, at the same time, I'd like to see more mainstream sects come out and decry the extremist Christians, just as we ask mainstream Muslims to talk out against their extremists.

So let me get this straight... its perfectly acceptable to deface Christians as a whole because some choose not to buy into this witch dreamland, but not okay to deface Muslims for as a whole for committing and/or aiding atrocities.

If you people are upset that Christians believe Harry Potter is rubbish, but not Muslims wanting to kill the 'infidels' then you're sick.

Not that I know of.

I don't watch it either. Partly because I don't get the Discovery Channel, but mainly 'cuase it's rarely as good as that clip...

EDIT:

If they did a little more science and less novelty it would be great….but it mostly seems to they do stuff and move along…no actual science to it.

It is british. A fair bit of the show seems to be anything they can do to get naked women on TV somehow.

I don't know who those kids are, but I think they (and their thermite) would make fine friends.

It's the promotion of witchcraft.

Actually, I don't think that's it. Or, not it alone. One of the defining characteristics of a devout christians worldwiew (In an idealized sense; I don't know any christians who actually think the world is like this, but I know a fair number who thinks it's like this it ought to be...) is the pre-determination of it. If you're a good boy/girl you'll be all right and go to heaven and all that, the answers are all given to you, right and wrong is a clear choice of morality, and so on. The world of HP isn't like that at all, it's all layers and questions, and is frequently a dark and scary place, where right and wrong isn't always at all clear, but HP is still required to make decisions his life and the lives of others depend on. And he doesn't always make the moral (right by definition) choice. Sometimes he does what he thinks is right, not what he's told is right. Sometimes he's just daft and does the wrong thing.

This is in addition to the prmotion of witchcraft, of course. And strong women, adults being cruel to children, opposition to authority...

This is just a rant, of course, and you might think "I'm a Christian, and I don't think garbage like that." Well, you're quite right, but I was with a religious girl for two years, and I have spoken with representatives of the vocal minority of people protesting HP for silly reasons.
