"The Prisoner" set for TV return http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/tv_and_radio/4447216.stm
Damien Timmer, who has been lined up to executive produce the show for Granada, told Broadcast the new series would take "liberties with the original" and would not retain its arty feel.
Some overviews for those who haven't seen it (Rent It Now!):
In the series, Patrick McGoohan played a secret agent trapped among a brainwashed population held captive by a mysterious regime. The prisoners were known only by numbers and McGoohan's character was famously called Number 6. There were no bars or barbed wire, and massive balloons would smother anyone attempting to escape.
The Prisoner ... Arguably one of the greatest science-fiction TV series of all time, it is the story of one man's attempt to retain his individuality against a society that treats every person as a number. “Number 6” is what this man is referred to in the inescapable, “socially correct” torture-chamber known as The Village, and he continually resists coercion to conform throughout the 17-episode miniseries as he tries to discover the answer to that most important question, Who is number 1?
damn, now I want to watch it again!
The Prisoner is a must-see, psychological/sci-fi drama TV series that's just F'ing BRILLIANT on many many levels.
