Out of the Blue

Seeing the thick layer of frost on the car this morning makes me think that the cold war here over who was going to turn on the thermostat first was going to end around now one way or the other... we are getting well into the wintery portion of the autumn here in the northeast.

The heavy slew you see on the 747 is a standard procedure when landing with cross-wind called 'crabbing.' There are multiple ways to do it but it looks like the pilot was using the rudder to get that turn.

Bit of a hard landing on the left gear though.

Rare or not; that's not so cool when you're riding in the back of a c130...

EDIT: Just looked at Lockheed's C-130 info page.
They have a support email. Wonder if they do mailorders as well?

I remember being glued to the TV in 1968 at 10 years old , transfixed by The Prisoner...there was nothing like it in the history of American television (well maybe "Twilight Zone")...I've watched every episode several times...truly bizarre

"The Prisoner" set for TV return
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/tv_and_radio/4447216.stm

Damien Timmer, who has been lined up to executive produce the show for Granada, told Broadcast the new series would take "liberties with the original" and would not retain its arty feel.
damnit.

Some overviews for those who haven't seen it (Rent It Now!):
In the series, Patrick McGoohan played a secret agent trapped among a brainwashed population held captive by a mysterious regime. The prisoners were known only by numbers and McGoohan's character was famously called Number 6. There were no bars or barbed wire, and massive balloons would smother anyone attempting to escape.
The Prisoner ... Arguably one of the greatest science-fiction TV series of all time, it is the story of one man's attempt to retain his individuality against a society that treats every person as a number. “Number 6” is what this man is referred to in the inescapable, “socially correct” torture-chamber known as The Village, and he continually resists coercion to conform throughout the 17-episode miniseries as he tries to discover the answer to that most important question, Who is number 1?
damn, now I want to watch it again!

The Prisoner is a must-see, psychological/sci-fi drama TV series that's just F'ing BRILLIANT on many many levels.

Shotgun or 357 under the counter, or in the back room, would have ended that after 30 seconds.
Yes, in the United States, it would.

It took 20 minutes for the police to finally show up...
this scene is precisely Why I Own A Gun.

Not in the United States it wouldn't. Probably the only place you can shoot an intruder in your own home and go to jail for it. Not to mention with how violent that robber was, the close ranges involved and the numerous objects to throw, the gun could easily have wound up in the robber's hands unless he was shot early and at a decent distance.

Apparently, that's not such a rare phenomenon; it happens frequently during windy days. It's the only way the plane can land without being blown off the runway ....

First time I have seen the Planet Vids site. The top video in the Top rated section is a must see. That is a totaly SiC remake of one of my favorite classical songs, as the intro says 'A most excellent remake of Pacbel's Cannon'
PS I know the spelling is wrong I just passing it on as it was spelled.
