EVE Online Free Add-on Plans

Though not posted anywhere on the Eve Online Website, CCP announces plans to release a free upgrade for their space-based MMORPG called EVE Online: Red Moon Rising in December. Here's word:
REYKJAVIK, ICELAND – November 18st, 2005 – CCP Games, an independent developer and publisher of massively multiplayer online games, today announced the public release of "EVE Online®: Red Moon Rising”, a new expansion to its highly successful and fast-growing Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) “EVE Online®: Exodus”. Red Moon Rising is scheduled for release this December, and will be provided to subscribers free of charge.

“Red Moon Rising is the last of the EXODUS chapters and is the precursor of the Kali expansion," said Magnus Bergsson, CMO of CCP Games. “Players will see new ships and features in Red Moon Rising created explicitly to augment warfare, so those who crave the adrenaline rush of action-packed PVP will really enjoy this release!”

This game blows ass, most of the people in here backing it up have tried one MMORPG in 1997 and have nothing else to compare to it

It sucks, steer clear

Jadar: if you want something closer to real time combat then SWG: Jump to lightspeed is the closest you will see. With an MMO server lag is a major issue always and so you cant get action as fluid as the original tie fighter games or freespace.

Thats why turn based rpgs prove much better for an MMO than high paced action or fps games.

Thats absolutely right Nexus, it may take 30 days of training to get battleship lvl 5 which gives you 5% extra damage and another drone for example. You could spend that 30 days instead doing 30 indivual skills all the way up to lvl 4 which brings the two characters much closer.

Training doesnt necessarily make you a better player.

Except Lokust, that's the biggest myth in the game. Older characters tend to only be fractionally more skilled (character wise, due to training 4-5 bring over 4x the time cost of 1-4) and also tend to just be more widely skilled. A new character can catch up by being a specialist, or by being a generalist with a few skills not at level 5 like some older characters.

I loved the time-based learning system until I realized that there was literally no possible way for a new competitive player to ever be on par with someone who had been playing for years. Once I realized that, the magic was gone.

As an ex fan of MMORPGs from the SOE stable (which means paying through the nose for patches, adventure packs and expansions) and being used to completely broken economies and serious bugs, eve is really refreshing

Eve's economy is massively detailed (more than any of SOE's games) but the beauty is in its simplicity. Fleet battles in PVP are an amazing sight to behold. Their IS a grind (not for training skills but for faction points) but however it is much less boring and repetiive than the ridiculous SWG or EQ2.

I liked everything about this game except combat. If they could graft on a realtime space combat simulator, like Tie Fighter or Freespace, it would be the ultimate MMOG.

Besides City of Heroes character creator, Eve's is outstanding. Spent an hour with it one day just to see if I could do a virtual version of my mom's DEATH GLARE™ Came awefully close.

I'm on your side Quakeworld buddy BUT in Eve your character is represented by a real person, selected at character creation. This face is shown to all your potential interactees.

I tried it.. and to me, the free version i downloaded a month or so ago wasn't fun.
well, i shouldnt say that.. i have what i call the "initial 30 minutes of gaming*" by which i review just how fun the game is so far, and where i can see it heading.

i was not impressed enough in my first 3 hours of playing to continue.. for shame too.. i hear its great once things get going.

*thats my idea, dont copy it.

BadIronTree,

I simply said the game wasn't for me. I like having my player characters represented in game (in first person) as a 'being', not a space ship or car. My preference. Lose the fanboi attitude, dorksquad.

Quakeworld.... the golden days. Remember when the player cap on servers went from 16-32? That was an awesome day in the history of gaming.

damn you QuakeWorld for getting me started on action games early in life.

Quakeworld changed my life. I remember playing the ORIGINAL Quake MP (Quake Test?) and having to lead my shots to allow for lag. Time spent clay pigeon shooting as a teen had finally paid off.

Definitely the greatest MMORPG I've ever played, and probably the deepest game I've ever played. I too wish I still had time for it

i second that. No boring grinding (although some times it gets boring on having to wait days for skills upgraded but oh well), good PvP, awesome economy and i like it how you can actually lose items.

Oh, and the fact that you get to play with 15 thousand players simultaneously beats the living crap of any other MMOG. period.

Great game, wish I had time for it still. I do truely miss my friends ingame that I did have. Good times, good memories.

It might be a slower paced game but when you get into the heat of it, it really shines, expecially blasting the crap out of someone without him bearly harming you, or a near identical match and you just happen to blast him away with just seconds to spare.

Was there ever a non-free Eve Add on?
Nope. All have been free and some added a lot of new stuff. I'm lookin forward to some of the new ship classes.

ps: some photos of the carriers look like the US Carrier ships that have in the navy
Where are the pics at? Are there shots of the new T2 Destroyers and Battlecruisers too? Those are some I'd like to try.

GW: Grad Mcgarth W/N Going to finish game before I start a new character me thinks

Slow as turtle at times

At times? I played the free trial and was bored of it before the trial was halfway through. Then again, I have a low threshold for boringness in games. damn you QuakeWorld for getting me started on action games early in life.
