Frans) has word from Introversion Software that distribution of their strategy
game has evolved, and it will be available via Steam on December 15,
presumably the announcement Valve promised the other day (story).
Here's a bit on how this is impacting their entire marketing strategy:
As part of the launch and Steam's exclusivity, we will no longer be offering Darwinia as a download option from our site, although it will still be possible to purchase shipped boxed copies. In order to encouarge impulse buys for the first month we will also be removing the demo from our site for about a month. Darwinia is set to be released on Steam in mid-December, with the option of pre-ordering a copy with a 10% discount from the beginning of December. We will be releasing a special pre-release video in time for this pre-order launch. It will be a short film about the making of Darwinia and Introverison behind-the-scenes....so you'll finally get to see what really goes on at the board meetings!
Well, I for one, am definately glad to see Darwinia get more exposure.
Course, it sucks that I won't be playing it now, seeing as I refuse to allow Steam back on my computers. Does anyone kow if I get a boxed copy that will ask Valve's permission to play?
