Civilization IV ATI Fix

The Apolyton Civilization Forums offer a homebrew fix for problems some owners of ATI video cards have experienced trying to run Civilization IV. This is an unofficial update, which is, naturally enough, unsupported by Firaxis. Thanks Godzilla.

I've had no problems on my 9800pro. But then, I've had dx9.0c installed for a bit, too, so that might be it....

I skipped the directx setup as I thought I had the latest and the greatest. Went to fire up the game and got a dx9 dll error. I ran directx setup from the CD, and voila, no problem. x800xt pe

It is a sad day when Civ needs cutting edge graphics drivers

You do realize that, without a graphics update, there's no reason to come out with a game after Civ2, right? If your system can't handle Civ4 go buy and play Civ3 or Civ2. The rest of us will move forward.

Yes, but they'll hardly be so cutting edge when the game is still selling well in 3yrs time.

I really hope the game doesn't run like a slug in late-game because of its "cutting edge graphics". Hopefully, there is also Diplomacy to fall back if it turns out to be the case.

It is a sad day when Civ needs cutting edge graphics drivers. Apparently the version of directx they have on the CD is different than the one you can download from MS? What has the world come to.

The publishers website where the whole procedure for ATI owners with GFX problems is explained:
http://www.2kgames.com/civ4/support_ati.htm

Though, the utility to unpack the Art Pack is only available for XP users. But a Win2000 version should follow shortly.

Yeah, the community doesn't have to run these kinds of fixes through publishers and testing.

Good job at being a moron though.

when a fucking Dev can't fix their own game faster than the community can. Nice going Firaxis (and, secondly, ATI).
