SCI Bidders: Lara Croft or Bust

Lara Croft firm gets bid approach (thanks Mike Martinez) reports a jump in the share price of SCI Entertainment after the owner of Eidos & Lara Croft was approached by "various parties" over a possible takeover bid. Word is:
SCI declined to comment on which companies had made the approaches.

However, the Daily Mail said SCI was a target for three firms - US computer games firms Midway and Electronic Arts, and private equity firm Apax Partners.

Earlier this year, SCI bought Lara Croft-owner Eidos for 74m. SCI now brands its games under the Eidos name.

In lunchtime trade, SCI shares were up by 140.5 pence, or 29.4%, at 619p.

"The board notes today's press comment and confirms that it has received approaches from various parties which may or may not lead to an offer for the company," SCI said in a statement.

Yes, I know the difference between a publisher and developer.

Still, I think a publisher has some say over the final product, the management at Eidos was not the best, and Eidos did not just fund games; it outright owned a number of developers.
I still want a sequel to the first Kain game!
For all my gripes, not wanting it to be another EA holding :|,

Otherwise, it has released some potentiall cool games, but there has always been something wrong. Legacy of Kain, even if it pales in comparison to the first 2D game, could definitely use some love. Commandos really is not improving, Deus Ex was murdered by Invisible War, Fear Effect died, Hitman varies from game to game, Republic/Project Eden/Project Snowblind all missed the mark, Thief did not improve with the last game, you have to wonder where Eidos was in all the Ion Storm drama, and so forth.

You are aware that EIDOS is a publisher and not a developer, right? As for your game criticisms: I've found the Hitman games to be pretty consistently good. Granted, Hitman 2 had a lot of crappy level design, but Contracts remedied this and I'm looking forward to Blood Money. Project Eden was probably Core's best game and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Combat could have been better but the puzzles were great. The LoK series still has much potential, but Defiance was the series finale so I doubt they will continue it. As for DX and Thief, the latest entries in those series were catered towards the consoles, which was probably a decision made by Ion Storm in order to expand potential profits. However, even though IW and DS were dumbed down, I still found them pretty enjoyable. Sure, IW failed horribly as a sequel to DX, but judged on its own merits, it really wasn't as bad as people made it out to be.

Eidos needs to do something.

The last Tomb Raider was atrociously bad. There were one or two bits that were semi-fun, though. Any guesses as to what they were? THE TIMES WHERE SHE FREAKING RAIDED TOMBS! Who'da thunk it?

A lot of these titles to have potential quality, but if the company just keeps on pushing crap out the door, the company will be the next Acclaim...

Done with F.E.A.R. and SS2; finishing up Myst v,
Ray And then I am forced to play NWN. <shudder>

Not that I want to see another takeover and even less competition in the industry, but if they have to get bought by another publisher, I hope it's Midway and not EA.
