Postal Movie Plans

Running With Scissors announces plans for a movie based on Postal, good news for fans of other game movie projects hopeful someone would keep director Uwe Boll occupied elsewhere. Here's word on the Postal movie, slated to shoot next year for a release in 2007:
Infamous Film Director Uwe Boll Signs Suicide Pact with Game Developer Running With Scissors
Tucson, AZ Start firing those AK-47s into the air because POSTAL (http://www.gopostal.com/), the game franchise that politicians, parents groups, countless cowardly reviewers and over a dozen sovereign nations don't want you to play has just become the latest game to make the transition to the big screen.

Running with Scissors (RWS), the world's most dangerous software company, has signed an appropriately apocalyptic deal with renegade filmmaker Uwe Boll (http://www.boll-kg.de/) to bring the most controversial franchise in gaming history to the screen in all its blood-drenched, ironic glory.

Despite everyone from Steven Spielberg to Microsoft announcing big money deals involving films based on video games, this new partnership between controversial figures in the game and film industries is destined to become the most incendiary game-to-film deal yet.

"Uwe Boll is the perfect producer-director to make POSTAL," affirmed Running With Scissors' CEO Vince Desi. "He understands the subject matter and has an appreciation and affinity for controversy and political incorrectness. POSTAL has always been about reason and insanity, violence and motivation; producer-director Uwe Boll is simply the right guy to bring that vision to the screen."

Awesome.
Anything Postal is a waste of time.
Anything Uwe Boll is a waste of time.

Now, rather than getting two wastes of time, we kill two birds with one stone!

It's like putting Michael Jordan and Larry Bird on the same team, only the exact opposite.

Cool, I think we just got rid of two really bad products, Uwe Boll and Postal, I would hate to be at the bottom of the hill when that shit avalanche hits.

Thank God, hopefully this comes out before Uwe Boll kills Far Cry.

Really?
I think this one could be one of those clerks style movies that could be a cult classic. There are lots of possibilities for this one, it really depends on what way they take the plot.

This could actually be a great movie, or a complete flop depending on the direction they take.

has running with scissors ever seen a uwe suck film? and does it seem like RWS is trying to make themselves out to be THE video game company of all times. The world's most dangrous software company? i think apocolyptic is an appropriate choice of words. i'm reading straight to dvd.

Well, I thought Postal2 was pretty damn fun, I really like some of the weapons, and how you can combine them (fuel, matches, pissing, you know, in that order ..)

But how people STILL havent been able to grasp the two simplest rules of the universe is beyond me:

1.Games based on movies = Suck
2.Movies based on Games = Suck even more.

Vince Desi is a slime bucket, I have to say. The man acts like a used car salesman. HOWEVER, he's absolutely correct in this case, a complete fuckup of a director like Uwe Boll is the perfect talentless hack to direct movie based on a complete fuckup of a game like POSTAL.

My mind is constantly torn asunder trying to understand how a two-bit company like Running with Scissors can stay afloat after releasing POSTAL in 1998 to low sales, and then the even more horrible POSTAL 2 seven years later to even worse sales! How can such a shitty company stay afloat when founders of the industry like Origin and Looking Glass and Dynamix are struck dead and shut down due to corporate takeovers? It doesn't make any fucking sense.

RWS is a detriment to the entire industry.

I hated the game(s) but I love the fact that they (RWS)offend reviewers and disgust the industry in general.

Yakuza, finally someone agrees with me.

The game was shit, the director is shit, you'll probably get a super shit movie, but the fact that its probably the worst story in video games meets the worst director it might actually produce something mildly funny.

First off, here is a great way to keep tab on everyone's most hated director: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/p/uwe_boll/

You can see that his movies empirically suck. Alone in the Dark garnered only 1 review out of 104 that said it was worth seeing.

But some people seem to miss the point of why he is chosen to do so many video game remakes. His movies turn profit. His extremely low budget flicks make a tiny splash on opening weekend from die hard gaming fans and then fade into obscurity.

Take House of the Dead. It had an estimated 7mil budget and made 10mil at the box office and 1mil from rentals. This from a movie that got 7% on the Tomatometer. RWS is just hoping to make a tiny bit of money off an expected flop.

His next film adaption should be of a gaming site... I can see the script now...

"Mr Heaslip, as President, I offer this Country's debt of gratitude to yourself and Hudson. Few knew an Airedale could fly a plane, much less land Air Force One as you disarmed the nuclear device strapped to my body.
Reports however state Bin Laden's broken body suvived being passed through the planes turbine during your wing tip duel at 30 000 feet, and is now encased within a giant 100 foot robot which currently devestates downtown Manhatten. Can I ask of your services one last time?"

His movies turn profit.

No. No they don't. In the US market Alone in the Dark lost 15 million. Yes, House of the Dead made money, but Uwe Boll was an unknown quanitity then. People now know him amd avoid him.

Uwe Boll gets to make movies because he is a German citizen. Nothing more, nothing less. He gets huge tax benefits to make these movies. Studios love this. If you'e a German, and you own a "movie production company" you can get work without having an ounce of talent. His investors are all German, not American, because they can profit on these movies even when they fail to make money.

Can anyone explain why Uwe Boll keeps picking shitty and obscure games to make movies out of? Seriously, instead of fucking house of the dead and alone in the dark, how about a metal gear or ninja gaiden movie? Not that I would want that to happen, but what exactly is his reasoning to picking not well known games to make movies of?
