Out of the Blue

The backlog of movies I would like to check out in the theaters keeps growing, and at this point the only thing knocking anything off the list is flicks that close. A couple more are coming out today, and I think I am going to be unable to resist pushing the Doom movie to the top of the list. I don't know that this means I will get out to see it, but I am quite curious about it, and I think I'll have regrets if it were to close before I got the chance to check it out.

A movie that fell under the radar and I picked up recently:
Employee of the Month.
-Rude, crude, hilarious, twisty twisty.
-Reminds me of Res Dogs.
-Doesn't get very high reviews because most people don't have a sense of humor.

DOOM!

Fucking theatres here have raised their matinee prices by about 2 bucks. Scumbags

Maybe I should wait for the inevitable two months to dollar theatre release.

Heh. They may be the oldest, but that doesn't mean they're still around.

For the top 10:

#1 - Bankrupted, bought by private company.
#3 - Pretty sure that wasn't the original think.com
#4 - doesn't resolve!
#5 - Bankrupt, bought out by Intel
#6 - Merged, domain doesn't resolve (?)
#9 - Merged, but still around.
#10 - Acquired, renamed.

The next 10 fare better, but not by much.

Oh, and I'm cheering for the lady with the chainsaw. Take that you wife beater.

Why are people classifying this as a "problem"?

Get over it folks... the advertisers are figuring out ways around or through the popup blockers, Firefox included. The ads that have been mentioned so far aren't the nasty, ugly ones that Blue will try to remove.

Well I enjoyed Chronicles of Riddick (unlike most people) and it is sitting at 27% while Doom is at 25%.

I'm expecting cheese, and guaranteed I'm going to chuckle everytime they goto first person camera footage.

You can not trust internet nerds reviews of Doom. Their expectations are too high and expect want an exact retelling of the original Doom. Which is stupid anyway since it was kill demons from hell on Mars. Not really much of a story. If it was a good action movie most of dem’ would still rate it bad.

I am not saying it will be good, I hope it is (for a movie). But other than looking like Doom3 I do not expect much ‘Doom’ in it.

Assuming you were speaking of the average at RottenTomatoes.com, you do realize that the reviews are NOT "internet nerds" as you put it, and most of the reviews are from professional reviewers?

You also need to keep in mind that the primary target for this movie is going to be those "internet nerds". And I really doubt anyone has high expectations for the movie...that would just be dumb.

BTW, its not demons from hell. The story has been changed to genetic experiments gone bad.

Now this is odd...The reviewer hasn't even played Doom.

Yes I know. I was refering to the real doom story. Saying that people would be close minded because it was not the original story (which was no story at all).

No I did not! Ahh well.

Parking Nazis Oct 21, 2005, 12:00

I can totally see the Parking Nazis ignoring the fact that someone is in the car when issuing a ticket. If the guy had been dead for a few days, that'd be different.

In the city of Trenton, Ontario, a few years back our car was ticketed while I was in the library. We'd put money in the meter and my dad had gone back out to the car about 5 or 10 minutes later because he wasn't feeling well. When I went out to the car, he was showing signs of a heart attack and I got him to the hospital immediately.

There was a parking ticket under the wiper that was written up with the time showing that not only had it supposedly been written while my dad was in the car, but they would have had to be fast runners because I was driving to the hospital at high speed at the documented moment.

It was fraud, plain and simple. My dad asked me not to pursue it because he wasn't up to going in to their offices to fight it.

The good news was that it wasn't a heart attack per se, no tissue death, but they kept him in the hospital for a few days.

This is where I think you are wrong.
Movies are not made for niche auidiences at this level.
If that were the case, it would not be THE ROCK as the main character - as he holds zero value for "internet nerds".
The movie was made for the masses.

/edit: Everyone knows what DOOM is. It doesn't take a nerd to understand the movie. Even people who know nothing about gaming have at least heard of DOOM.

most of the reviews are from professional reviewers?

To further clarify -- RottenTomatoes actually has two lists of reviewers. There's a general list, which is what the score on the main page (and everywhere else AFAIK) is based on, and then there's a list of "trusted" reviewers. I dunno what makes you a trusted reviewer, but I'm sure you could find out. It's a smaller list and generally has a (slightly) different score.

But, AFAIK, neither list includes reviews from random Internet bloggers, posters, voters, etc. (unlike IMDB). James Bernadelli is a "trusted" reviewer even though he's not professionally employed as a movie critic, but he's been posting reviews on Usenet for over a decade now.

Ditto.

Oh, BTW, my wife went in for a CAT scan yesterday and they didn't find one. Ba-dum-tsh!

Actually, it looks like all 3 blood clots in her lungs have dissolved completely and she will probably be cleared to resume full-time work next week. GREAT NEWS!

She still has to stay on the Coumadin for a while, though, we're not sure for how long at this point.

Again, thanks for all the well wishes in the past.
