They Hunger: Lost Souls

The Black Widow Games Website reveals development of They Hunger: Lost Souls, a Source-engine game that follows-up on the popular They Hunger modifications for Half-Life. The site includes the first screenshots, along with the announcement:
They Hunger: Lost Souls is a first-person action commercial game powered by the award-winning Half-Life 2 Source engine from Valve Software. Based upon the highly popular They Hunger mod series, the upcoming title features a completely new horror-survival adventure.

In North-Eastern Europe during the early 1960's, strange anomalies culminate with dead corpses rising from their graves. As a tourist recovering from a tragic accident, you seek shelter in an ancient monastery overrun by bloodthirsty zombies, and become involved in an escalading cascade of calamities.

Good luck on your mod Squirrel!

It's not a mod :(. We actually have an engine license now.

It's ok though, a lot of people still associate us with our modding background. But this will be a full-fledged commercial game.

It's been a few years, but I remember it being painfully repetative.

I think that was probably a little too revealing.

Well, look at his posts...

Creston,
You can download versions 1,2,3 from here.

http://www.fileplanet.com/60777/download/PC-Gamer-Presents:-They-Hunger,-Episodes-1,-2,-and-3

Not sure if there is anywhere else it can be downloaded from.
I've heard there is a way to get it to run with Steam HL, but
you'll have to Google around for it.
Consoles are schwag.

Despite reading about it a zillion times, I never played the original They Hunger mods...
Anyone know where I can get them from, and if they work on the Half Life version included on Steam?
This looks great.

Edit : Good luck on your mod Squirrel!
And Zeph, that really was a bit... disturbing...

Now, if these Zombies were raping women & pulling the guts out of babies, then maybe we'd have something here.

I think that was probably a little too revealing.

Sorry to be the voice of dissention, but I thought They Hunger was really boring

I completely agree. They were slow & stupid. It was boring & useless. I played through the first one just hoping for something fun to eventually happen; it never did.

Also, I watched the George Romero movies. The They Hunger mods were way more campy than that and that just about sums it all up.

I don't know what else the guy did, but I really don't understand the fascination with zombies. Maybe this is why Doom is going to be Zombies & there have been something like 109 zombie movies, most of which have been a complete waste of time to me. Now, if these Zombies were raping women & pulling the guts out of babies, then maybe we'd have something here. But as it stands, this is just going to be stupid. Funny how Zombies are supposed to be evil and scary but when it really comes down to it all they do is go "brains" and walk really slow and flail their arms about.

SZ you have a website dedicated to this FPS/RPG hybrid game or any form of details on it? Or is it still a classified secret?

No website yet but we have passed some screenshots around our inner circle (other engine licensees and such) and got some fairly high praise regarding our inventory and stats menus. They've been compared more to Morrowind than SS or DE. The reason we haven't given an official announcement to gaming media is because while a lot of things are done, the level design is still pretty rough and it's hard to make a good first impression without polished level design. While I'm sure people would definitely get the right idea from screenshots that included the interface and weaponry, we need another month or so to nail a few more areas before we show them.

But once the announcement hits blues I will be here to answer any questions and offer up some exclusive shots for the people here since I think this is the audience that would appreciate our game the most.

Ah Bioshock looks good from those 3 screens i saw. Nice to see something that could be even close to Deus Ex/SS2. Both probably the last two amazing FPS/RPG/Horror style games that have been out in the past oooh 6 years is it?

Yeah, I assume so, even though the last anyone heard from it was over a year ago. I'm guessing they're biding their time until they have enough relevant media to show.

Damn, that sucks. We really need some good sci-fi horror games. Something like System Shock 2.

Well, we're an ex-mod developer like these guys and we've actually been developing a sci-fi FPS/RPG for quite some time now. Actually, it'll be a year in one month.. damn it's been a while. We've got a lot of outdoor areas that are more exploratory than scary (well, nighttime can be a different story) but there's a laboratory map that's more or less dedicated to SS in a lot of ways. We miss the Deus Ex/System Shock days. Hope we won't disappoint.

Bioshock is being created by "Irational Games" as I type this.

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/bioshock/index.html

It's the "spiritual successor" to SS2... as in System Shock 2, not SS2 as in Serious Sam 2.
