DOOM Movie Sequel?

Sci Fi Wire (thanks Mike Martinez and 1UP) reports that Karl Urban and Rosamund Pike have signed contracts for a sequel to the imminent DOOM movie. The story makes it clear that contracts like this are often signed before definitive plans for sequels are sealed, and that in this case there are no plans for another DOOM movie at this point. The story also quotes Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson saying it is possible he would participate in a sequel as well.

Not necessarily.

It's not uncommon to sign for the option of a sequel, but it's no guarantee that the actors will appear. They've just agreed to come back, if asked.

That said, this is the kind of movie which wouldn't precisely surprise me for not killing off main characters. Might take some dialogue or something ...

So, I guess the three of them make it out of the movie alive?

Thanks.

Thanks a lot.

Anyone notice IGN's Doom movie review near the middle of the page? It's actually good! But it seems you guys only comment negatively.

IGN + DOOM is ALWAYS good reviews.

The biggest problem with this movie, is that there is a history with the name Doom. And when you take a critical part of that history away when it's translated (for this example) to the big screen, the biggest fans of Doom will tear it apart, and rightly so. The same could be said if you had Star Trek 2, and renamed Khan into Bob, or Star Wars, and renamed the Death Star to the Basketball of Death.
I'm sure Peter Jackson and company had a hell of a time getting everything so well done as to not piss off the people who were 'fanboi's' of the books.
And in the case of Doom, there is no Hell, just Hell breaking loose, which to me pretty much says 'fuck you, were making this movie the way we want', and for that reason I have no interest at all in seeing this movie. Not to mention wasn't it ID Software who said time and again they wouldn't sell out the Doom/Quake franchise with a movie that didn't do the game/games justice?

1 more thing, without ever seeing the movie yet...SPOILER ALERT! I'd say it's safe to say, Karl Urban's character(The Reaper), and whatever Rosamund Pike plays will survive till the end

I can't wait to see this movie! Doom+The Rock=AWESOME! The Rock was great in The Rundown and I hear equal in Walking Tall. I'd expect no less in this movie where he can be all badass with that rated R label slapped on. Glad to hear a sequel will be thought about, just hope the first is as good as I'm hoping and hearing it is.

What happened with Serenity?

It just didn't break the profits it needed in order to secure a sequel, by a wide margin. It's first two weeks probably needed about twice what it took in.

Universal will make it's money back w/ overseas and DVD sales ... but I think it was hoping the existing fan base would spread the word and make the opening weekend killer.

Silly Universal. Firefly fans have already bored all of their friend with how great the show is. Instead of all the sneak peeks, they should have done a much better promo+trailer campaign. You Can't Stop The Signal? WTF was that?

Yea, IGN did say it was actually a good film. I expect it to be entertaining. You can't really expect much else I think. If you go see it and you have fun, I'd say the movie was a success. Most people will see it pre-deciding it sucks because it's a videogame movie and it has the Rock in it (a good actor. I was happy to hear he was going to do it).

Definately will have a quick, but powerful, breakdown if Doom sees a sequel but Serenity does not.

Did you guys just see the headline and not bother reading the story at all?

If what I have read about this movie is true, it's going to suck in ways that Resident Evil could only dream of. Sequels indeed.
