I would also like to see more animals, monsters that don't attack you. Ultima did this long ago, and really did it well with U7 the Black Gate. Birds, squirrels, wolves, etc would avoid you, except wolves in packs would sometimes get the courage to go after you in a group. That was neat. Tired of killing every damn creature in these games. They seem to have no value for life or self worth. I for one won't be killing the cool looking dear in Oblivion unless I am starving in the game.

Amen. Bonus points to you for being an Ultima 7 fan!

Since it is for the XBOX 360 and its near Xmas, Bethesda has to release this game. They dont make many games so they rely heavily on timing like this. I am pretty sure the game will be out for PC.

But they might pull a STALKER on us!

As much of an amazingly huge fan of Gothic 2 as I was, I'm still going to go with Morrowind: Oblivion when November comes 'round. Let's just hope Oblivion doesn't suck.

Let's be honest and say "Let's just hope Oblivion ships this year."

Night of the Raven is a good expansion. You don't have to replay the entire game, just the first two or three chapters. However, they make it easier to join the three different factions, so it isn't much of a problem. On the other hand, the expansion makes the monsters stronger, so the difficulty curve becomes even steeper. On the bright side, if you are a mage, you can get some pretty buff spells for the lower circles of magic. This helps balance out the ramped up difficulty, though the game is still much easier if you focus on strength and melee skills. The expansion's length is about 20-25 hours if you do all the missions and fully explore the world. Not quite as long as I'd like, but it is just an expansion.

I'm really glad that Jowood is finally taking the North American market into consideration. Sure, the release is pretty damn late but I didn't think that JoWood would release it at all. I'm definitely going to buy Gothic 2 Gold when it comes out and probably Gothic 3 too.

Anyone ever been able to read if Night of the Raven is any good? I heard you have to pretty much play the whole game over again to get to the new parts. Seems like this expansion was really an after thought. But since I am/was so into Gothic it might be fun to play through on a rainy day come this winter.

However, with Oblivion ready to unleash, I may totally forgo this Gothic 2 Gold. I am really on the fence about Oblivion given Bethesda's track record. I would hate to have to bet money on whether or not the game will be good.

After watching the 15-20 minute play through demo, Oblivion just looks so cool. However things that I noticed were that all monsters gave the same death sound, which I hope will not be final (I know the demo player was in god mode, killing a liche in 2 swings and 2 fireballs? Not likely) and also all the monsters died in a similar way, all falling to the left, same animation as opposed to having Havoc or other physics just take care of random death animations. Again this may be put in towards the end. The liche when it died realistically bounced off the pillar it hit, but the zombies did not. This is what I mean by Bethesda always having a generic feel and biting off more than they could chew.

Maybe they could add some Die By The Sword physics where peoples hands, forearms, heads, legs etc could get lopped off. THAT would be fun!

Please god don't let them put the Cliff birds from Morrowind back in Oblivion. Every single one attacks you and has to fly straight down to do it. And a packmule, horse and wagon idea would be nice. They have horses so it looks promising.

Well it is only 20 bucks, which is a pretty standard price for just an expansion. The origional being included is just gravy for someone who doesn't have it yet.

I went through a ridiculous amount of trouble trying to get the Gothic 2 expansion to translate to english correctly, without too much luck. I'm a little dissapointed that the only way they're bringing it to american audiences is in a "gold" bundle package. I already bought the damn game, I'm not all giddy about buying it twice.

I think a previous poster hit the nail on the head, though. As much of an amazingly huge fan of Gothic 2 as I was, I'm still going to go with Morrowind: Oblivion when November comes 'round. Let's just hope Oblivion doesn't suck.

At least I'll have something to fall back on if it does. That is, if the world doesn't collapse in on itself from the mass collective dissapointment that will occur if it does indeed end up becoming a steaming pile. The fate of the world is in Bethesda's hands.

This has the addon/NotR and it is in English, they should have included Gothic 1 for the 29.99 price range

I used say/think how JoWood was going to going to be great for gamers getting good to great titles for good prices, helping many small struggling developers.
I guess, I still hope thats true but things arent looking that great, poor management seems to be killing them.

The Panzerkleins are a real pain but there are some mods out there and one gets ride of them. There is another taht makes them not so deadly. I just wish I remember where I saw the mods at.

Ya that is a marketing blunder! But I must say, I haven't played one Bethesda came that kept me interested for more than a week. Sure Morrowind looked great, had killer art, but after about 3-5 days of playing it all felt really generic. The problem with Bethesda is that they always do the more of the same approach.

Now Gothic 1 and 2 was a superior game story and atmosphere wise. Sure the graphics were good, nowhere near Morrowind, but I beat both Gothic 1 and 2 and never beat any of the Elder Scrolls games.

I really hope Oblivion will break this trend with Bethesda. Maybe smaller, more intimate areas, fewer towns (like morrowind) and a more classic Ultima style game. We shall see. I will buy it regardless just to show off the graphics on my rig, but really hope Oblivion grabs me by the nuts the way both Gothics did.

Also a nod to Arx Fatalis which was a very engrossing game published by JoWood.

Lets decide to release the Gothic 2 expansion the same month Oblivion is coming out. That should work out well for them.

I recently ordered Night of the Raven from a shop in the Czech Republic. Allspoken dialogue and subtitles are english, though it looks like you wont have to pay an outrageous price or wait three weeks for shipping. The Gold version of G2 wil come with the expansion.

Interesting. Gothic 2 was an excellent game however the expansion, Night of the Raven, is in German only. There are mods out there that try to convert it to English but you still have to get a hold of the original disk, or bit torrent/emule it.

Wonder if they are going to finally place the expansion pack in English hands? Gothic 1 and 2 are prime examples of RPG games.

Not to be mean, but I absolutely hate how JoWood makes us wait a year (or more) for any of its COMPLETED games.

If you have never played any of these, they are worth it. Otherwise, way too late as I already played the games ealier - you know, after waiting a good year or so for JoWood to just get of its ass and ship it.
For how long it took, G2 in the US should have been G2 Gold.
Thinking JoWoop publishing is a one-year death sentence,
