HL2 is still better than DooM3
Probably. But they both underdelivered. Doom3 offered an outdated, simplistic and unmemorable gameplay experience with overly-demanding hardware requirements. HL2 offered gimmicky physics-based 'puzzles' and a storyline straight from the writing pad of an eight year old. These games had nothing revolutionary about them - there were still unacceptably long load-times for maps that were still partially disguised corridors where we fought enemies that relied on near-complete scripting to approximate AI. This was partly because both developers ran into huge delays creating the (more profitable) underlying technology. When you're 12 months late, you're inclined to get it out the door - innovation goes out the window.
Edit: 100.
